Fire and Ice
Meta Knight / Tulok
Meta Knight / Tulok
Tulok is well aware of the legacy his father made for himself. Although he rarely sees his father fight- he retired once he was born, and passed his duties to Kirby. But he’s heard many stories of him as a child. A fierce warrior who once battled in war under the GSA. A protector to many who call Pop Star their home. A powerful storm who can easily outmatch demon beasts twice his size.
Meta Knight, his father, is truly a force to be reckoned with. Tulok knows the battle isn’t going to be easy. Yes, his father has aged on in years, but the way he seamlessly glides through the air, or the way he wields his sword with such power behind it, Tulok could’ve sworn he’s battling a completely different person.
From the sidelines, family and friends quietly stand. Wulfric, who traveled all the way to South Nova to watch the battle, hasn’t budged from his place since it started. Being the current Chief of his village, he is incredibly invested in the outcome of this match.
The battle lasted well throughout the day, and both sides were starting to feel the weight of it. The pair landed after a fierce skirmish in the sky that ended in a stalemate when neither could disarm the other.
“I see all your training has paid off.” Meta spoke, Galaxia firm in his grasp. “It’s been a long time since I’ve felt the toll of a battle.”
On the other end of the field, Tulok stands. Too tired to speak, the Leo spent his time trying to catch his breath while his father spoke. Even though the battle is being held during the cold season, Tulok still finds his surroundings incredible warm compared to South Nova. It put him at a great disadvantage right from the very start, and Tulok knows he doesn’t have much time left before he has to forfeit for the safety of his health.
“Do you need a moment to rest? I’m sure the Demon Beasts you face off in South Nova will be just as understanding as I’m being right now. Tell me, Tulok, do you intend to be carried by your squad when you go out hunting? A chief is supposed to lead, not struggle to keep up.”
Tulok’s wing twitch in annoyance, and he charged with full force towards Meta. Their blades clash with the sound of metal and ice scraping against each other. When none gave in, they both pulled back before Tulok quickly shot several shards of ice at him. Meta easily deflected each one and eyed the Leo across from him.
“Good try, but unless you disarm me, your long-range attacks will have no effect.”
Tulok knows that. His father is able to defend himself against any ice attack he shoots at him. His ice shards are useless in battle unless he disarms Galaxia. Using his blade just ends in a stalemate each and every time, and their fight and speed are nearly a match. With Tulok’s stamina is nearly exhausted, he knows he doesn't have much time left. If he wants to win, then he needs to put everything in his next, and possibly, final move. But...could he really use it against the one he has nothing but the highest admiration for?
“Dad…” He finally speaks after being silent the entire time, and looks towards him from across the battle field.
“Hm?” Meta didn’t expect him to speak. He's been silent and focused the entire time. It must be something quite important, so he relaxes from his battle stance, and straightens his posture. He loosens his grip on Galaxia, and he gives a nod for him to speak.
“I…I know we’re in the middle of a battle...but...I.....” He begins to stammer with his words. His once confident features slowly change as he's becoming more and more conflicted to finish. Eventually, Tulok couldn't look at his father any longer and breaks eye contact with him.
After watching his son struggling for several minutes, he calls out to him. “Tulok.”
His troubled eyes meet with his father’s confident gleam. Meta goes back into his stance and raises Galaxia.
“Are you ready to finish this?”
“Dad, I-”
“Give it everything you have. I expect nothing less from my son. Don't hold back, alright?”
And with that, Tulok’s trouble features melt into a positive grin. He gives a nod, and hold out his right arm to finish it off with his final move.
“Thank you, Dad.” He says.
A small blue wisp appears in the center of his palm.
““Thank you for taking care of me all these years.”
The wisp grows into a roaring flame. In the distance, Wulfric proudly smiles.
“Thank you for training me, and never giving up."
Kirby and his friends roar out in a wave of cheers, and Kes looks on in absolute amazement.
“You and Mom don’t need to worry about me. I’ll be okay..”
Fire and ice. Freezing and burning at the same time. Meta knows this will be their final attack. He tightly grips Galaxia and charges.
“Dad….”
Tulok sprints towards his father.
In one hand, his weapon of pure ice. The other, a blinding blue flame.
“Thank you.”

-The End-
This is a continuation from this illustration below:
Tulok finally faces against his father for his blessing to move to South Nova to take over Wulfric’s role as chief. Meta has aged on in years, but don’t let that fool you. He’s still a powerful force to battle against. But it looks like Tulok's been doing some super special training~! The Flame of Fire and Ice is a VERY powerful ability in the Ice Leo clan. Other than Tulok, one other Ice Leo is able to wield it. They're the one who trained Tulok how to use it, actually!
Brace yourselves, the one who trained Tulok is....
Frost!!!
If you don't know who Frost is, he is Kes' Grandfather. So Tulok's Great-grandfather!! Yes, Ice Leos have a LONG lifespan. Technically, in the GW universe, all Leos have long lifespans. Pyrell ends up seeing his great Grandson, so it's pretty common in the Leo line. ^o^
But, if you remember this literature piece here, and this one here as well, Frost is a huge jerkface. Wulfric actually banished him from the village when he tried attacking Kes when he found out she was leaving to live with Meta on Pop Star. oAo
Prior to Meta and Tulok's battle, Tulok did some training in South Nova with Wulfric. While reading a rather large archive of various weapons and techniques written by non-other than Frost, Tulok stumbles on the Fire and Ice technique. He begs Wulfric to teach it to him, but Wulfric tells him only Frost knows how to use it. He later learns from town that Frost is still alive! Living near Heaven's Spine. When Tulok confronts Wulfric about it, Wulfric warns him how dangerous Frost is. Even in his old age, Frost can easily take down some of the best warriors in their village. Not only that, but Frost will never accept him as family. He is a hybrid, and Frost is against any outsider who dares mate with their own. The fact Tulok is a blood relative of Frost will make the resentment even stronger.
Being as stubborn as his father, Tulok sneaks out to try to find him regardless. Maybe being isolated for several decades changed his views. Maybe Wulfric is wrong, and he really wants to see his family again!!
Having wings has its perks, and Tulok easily travels to the perimeter of Heaven’s Spine, and begins searching to him. A few hours without spotting any sort of opening or cavern, Tulok calls it quits and decides to leave before his Grandfather wakes up and notices he’s gone missing.
As he’s about to take off, the floor of ice below him starts to break, and Tulok has little time to react before falling in. The landing is painful, but not life threatening. Tulok easily gets up, dusts himself off, and notices he fell into a large underground tunnel. Using his wings, he flies back to the top, but quickly notices the opening has been sealed back up. Tulok KNOWS this has to be the work of Frost!
He eagerly lands, but before he takes off, a part of him heeds what his Grandfather said. He pulls out a large fur pelt his Grandfather had in his room, and uses it to cover his wings. He does the same for his eye, and uses his hair to cover the one with the bright orange iris he inherited from his father. Making sure everything is hidden, Tulok makes his way through the tunnels.
Tulok has a feeling Frost wanted to meet him, because it took less than 5 minutes to reach the end of the tunnel. Tulok gasps in awe when it lead to a massive underground cavern. Tulok couldn’t believe his Great Grandfather formed an entire world underneath the very floor they stood on.
He walks in a bit more before a voice calls out to him. He asks not who his is, but the pelt he’s wearing. He claims it belongs to his Daughter, Glacine, and asks who gave it to him. Tulok responds it belongs to his Grandfather, Wulfric. He then introduces himself as his Great Grandson, and tells him he’s traveled from the village to learn one of the moves he read about in the book he wrote. Frost claims he has no Great Grandson. Her only Granddaughter moved to Pop Star to be with an outsider. For her to return, and have a child with their own is impossible.
Tulok lies to Frost once he heard his distaste regarding outsiders. He tells him she moved back to the village long ago, and started a family. He’s their only child, and he wants to learn to get stronger so he can become the next Chief. What Tulok says interests Frost, since he knows Kesuk refused to be the next Chief. Maybe Tulok could finally be the successor he’s been hoping for. Frost appears before Tulok and takes a moment to get a good look at him. His eye sight isn’t as good as his younger years, not to mention Tulok does a good job avoiding and hiding his hybrid features from him. Frost doesn’t take notice, and motions the young Leo to follow him so they could train.
Frost realizes Tulok is nothing like his Granddaughter. Where she is a prodigy, handpicked and trained by him….Tulok is the complete opposite. Frost says Wulfric has done a VERY poor job raising and training him. Tulok does his best to bite his tongue from the insult, and tells Frost he hopes he can learn to be a better fighter under his supervision. Frost can’t guarantee it, but promises he’ll teach him everything he knows.
------
Back in South Nova, Wulfric immediately notices the pelt belonging to his late wife is missing. It hangs from his wall, so it’s impossible not to notice. It doesn’t take Wulfric long to realize Tulok is missing as well. He bursts in Kes’ room to inform her and Meta, and then proceeds to make his way to Heaven’s Spine. Meta and Kes follow soon after.
Being Chief isn’t just a title thrown around in their village. There’s a reason why Wulfric is their leader. Wulfric is easily able to navigate, and track Tulok’s location in the harsh blizzard surrounding the land. When he reaches Heaven’s Spine, he quickly senses the floor below him was hollow. He breaks through the ice and runs through the various tunnels until he finally reaches the open cavern.
Once Wulfric breaks through the ice, Frost immediately senses an intruder. Tulok has a feeling it was his Grandfather, and he tells Frost not to attack. Once Wulfric enters the area, Frost confronts him. Seeing as Wulfric is the one who banished him, his welcome is less than warm. He holds back from attacking his son-in-law, and tells him to leave. He’s training Tulok since he obviously failed as his mentor, and will return him back to the village without harm. Wulfric sees Tulok with Glacene’s pelt covering his wings, and realizes Frost doesn’t know he’s a hybrid.
While Tulok is doing a…decent job in fooling Frost, Wulfric doesn’t want to take the chance in him finding out, and orders Tulok to leave with him. To Wulfric’s surprise, Tulok doesn’t listen, and tells him this is his only chance to learn everything from his Great Grandfather before all of his teachings will be lost to time. He and Tulok have quite a fierce argument before Kes and Meta come barreling in moments later.
Nobody has time to react to Frost’s attack towards Meta. Tulok sees the full rage and hatred towards outsiders, and tried to stop Frost from attacking his Dad. Frost ends up accidentally hitting Tulok, and the Leo’s pelt ends up falling off- exposing his wings.
Frost is left stunned. It takes him a moment to realize what’s happening before he starts attacking Tulok for being the product of an outsider. Meta grabs his son and leaves while Kes and Wulfic take on Frost. Wulfric is severely injured once they resurface, and Tulok blames himself for not listening to his Grandfather. Frost really does hate outsiders, and not even his own family members are safe. He apologizes profusely for not taking his warning seriously.
Meta and Kes rush Wulfric back to the village where his wounds are treated. Tulok spends the time he was supposed to be training, to take care of Wulfric instead. (Meta and Kes ground him, so it’s not like he really has a choice. XDDD )
During the few hours he spent time with Frost, Tulok got a VERY small crash course in how to learn the Fire and Ice Technique. Unfortunately, Frost won’t be teaching him how to master it, so Tulok takes it upon himself to learn it. He doesn’t tell Meta or Kes about it, but does inform Wulfric.
Eventually, after many months/ year of training, Tulok is the second Leo who is able to use this attack. Since he didn’t tell anyone except Wulfric, everyone seeing his using his new Trump Card is surprised!
ANYWAYS, that’s the origin of his attack. >v<
Obviously nothing excuses Frost for what he's done, but when Wulfric and Kes battles against him, something he says causes the pair to cease their battle for a moment. He asks Wulfric and Kes why they sympathies with outsiders when they've done nothing but hurt and destroy everything they love. For the first time, Wulfric could hear the pain and sorrow in his voice. He always thought he never cared about the death of Glacine, but hearing him sob and cry makes him realize how wrong he is. Wulfric says he used to harbor a lot of hatred towards outsiders once his wife died. He'd probably still have the same mindset if it weren't for Kesuk. She's the one who helped him realize not all outsiders are bad.
Frost refuses to accept their views and goes back to attacking them- calling them traitors of their kind. Although wounded from Frost's attack, Wulfric tells him he's free to come back to the village if he accepts Meta, Tulok and their circle of outsiders without conflict or hostility. He and Frost may not see eye to eye, but he's willing to move on for the sake of Tulok, and their family. He doesn't get an answer and continues to attack. Kes does her best to flee from the battle, and manages to get her and her father out of the caverns.
