The motives behind Shieff is FINALLY revealed!! A very vile desire, and a motive he's still trying to complete at this very moment!
There is a taboo, a taboo mentioned way back in 2015 by Null.
The title of Star Warrior is not to be taken lightly. It is a heavy burden one must hold. To help ease the stress, they are given a Guardian for their selfless sacrifice to help aid and protect them along their journey.
There's is a reason why the chances of a Star Warrior surviving the loss of their Guardian is VERY slim. Their life is linked, BUT the motive behind why it's linked is also to protect the cycle of Star Warrior and Guardian. There's a high chance, a VERY high chance of a Star Warrior committing said taboo once their other half dies. To ensure it doesn't happen, a Star Warrior will ultimately die the same time their Guardian dies. (As Mentioned here)
**So, why didn't Pyrell die when Drani passed away? (I'm going off topic, but I have a feeling someone will bring this up. Be warned, I'm diving DEEP into the LORE with this one.)
+++++ MASSIVE SPOILERS BELOW! +++++
This was originally going to be revealed during their GSA days, but I honestly doubt I'm going to get there. XDD This comic already has taken me 10+ years, I don't think I have it in me to cover their war days. Just...act surprised if I end up making the comic. Please. ;A;
But here's the reason why Pyrell survived. It's because of Falspar and Alto. I have mentioned this quote several times, and I guess it's time to reveal why.
""A Guardian's eye can tell all. The past, the present, and the future.""
Take a look at Alto's eyes. Two colors from birth, a future that's been long foretold. When a Guardian has the eyes of two different colors, it will mean they will carry the task of protecting another in their lifetime. This has been true for Mádar back in DFTP Page 22. Lord Kelderon Kalmari knew from looking at his eyes. (Which is heavily focused on during said page) Mádar is the Guardian of Lord Paverok, but he served another, which is Sir Bate. Alto is the Guardian of Falspar, but he will end up taking Pyrell under his wing once Drani died.
There is a reason why Mádar's eyes are black, same as Ekon. I wonder if you know why. :^) But that's another secret for later.
And as much as I would LOVE to dive more into Guardian lore, I'm getting off track.

So, is this comic series, and Bate's life just one big goal for Shieff to get him to kill himself as mentioned here in POW Page 4.
Yes. Sadly, it is. Look back and you'll see. You'll notice everything that's happened in Bate's life is Shieff's doing. He's done everything, tried everything in order to make his goal a reality.
Death of his family member, disease and sickness, death of a his wife, manipulation and control by using the demon frog to amplify his hatred, death of a son, death of a daughter. Death of friends.
Hints have been sprinkled around the series, as dark as that sounds. Recent noticeable one is here in Page 9 of POW, when Shieff thanks Gordon for the betrayal. Because if Gordon is someone special to Bate, killing him off and fueling Bate's demons will be one step closer to his goal.
Lucian was going to be another tactic. Shieff controlled Lucian (Luna) in hopes Bate would eventually kill her. And then Bate will come to realize he is responsible for the death of his childhood friend. But Atka intervened in time to prevent it. =,)
Another favorite one is here (DFTP Page 22) where Null says Shieff has taken a lot from Bate, but he continues to build what he's destroyed. Ah, it's also a good time to bring up one of my favorite quotes from Bate. It's shown in his bio and I believe in a few other illustrations. Bate says the following below:
"I was told that each chapter in my life would hold much greater things than the last."
Atka has given him these words, and it rings true in many cases. 2 Examples below:
Death of Ton- Bate & Gordon end up living in Kalmari Town where he meets Ellie.
Death of Ellie & Atler- Bate meets Null, tries to continue picking up the broken pieces of his life, and ultimately takes on the responsibility of looking after Meta and becoming their mentor.
So now knowing this. Knowing what Shieff has planned, and there's only 4 pages left....what's going to happen. Who is the dearest thing to Bate at this very moment. The one Bate will not be able to recover from if they died....
Dark page, but there's a cute lil Easter egg in this page. I wonder if you can spot it~!! 8D
