Sacrificing oneself for another is the ultimate act of love and loyalty for a Guardian. The first Guardian, Dyna Star has done the same thing to protect The Great Kalamar Kalmari. Although Null was not Bate's original Guardian, he still saw him as someone worth protecting.
Though it seems like Lord Kelderon Kalmari knew this long ago....I wonder how. I believe I mentioned this elsewhere, but if not!!

Atka was unfortunately unable to defend Null during this time. She had to destroy the hand before it formed another spear. Bate has lost so many in his life, and Null hopes his sacrifice will be the last death he'll ever have to endure.
Null went from "evil" Dark Matter in a jar, to friendly Dark Matter, to Corrupted Guardian, and finally!!! A Guardian of Bate. <33 I'm quite proud of him, really. His long journey is filled with hardships, loss and redemption. You are truly an amazing little Guardian, aren't you?
