Her heart skipped. Now that she was up close, she could see something she hadn't noticed before, "What happened to you? Is that... ice?!" It seemed impossible, yet there it was.

Ice had formed in its feathers, locking its wings so that it couldn't fly. No wonder the poor thing was shivering.

Realizing she needed to warm it up, she pulled off her headband, "Here, let's get you warmed up, and... thawed." No, this wasn't natural.

As she carefully wrapped the frosted animal, she couldn't help wondering what happened. Winter was still a long ways off, and it couldn't have flown here from a colder area with its wings iced like that.

Sitting back to look over the bird, her chest tightened in concern, "There, is that better?" It wasn't shivering as hard, now, and she hoped her own body heat would help so she knelt down beside it.

Gently rubbing its back, she blinked in worry, "How did you get frozen like this? It's the middle of..." A chill ran up her back, "Wait a minute..." All at once her heart was pounding.

The bird blinked up at her as confusion crossed her face, "Does it feel... colder?" The temperature had noticably dropped, as though night had fallen, but it was still midday.

Suddenly the bird stiffened, eyes going wide as it turned its head away, and she understood all too clearly that they were not alone.
