A Frozen Leo's Return
Chapter. 3
"Here, now hurry up and finish making it!!!" The male Leo barked, tossing various roots, stems, and plants to Petta. He watched as she sorted through each one; complimenting his ability to gather and recognize the items she requested. To his misfortune, however, she didn't oblige to make what he asked.
"So, how exactly do you expect me to make anything from these?" She lifted up the items. "I have no jars, no test tubes, or even my mortar and pestle. Go back to my shop and get my supplies." She turned away.
"Listen, you! I've gathered just about everything you asked for and now you expect me to go out and get even more items?!!!" He yelled in frustration from being treated as her lackey.
"If you want me to make you this tonic, I suggest you listen to me." She crossed her arms and huffed, not as afraid of him like before.
"AARRRRWWWW!!!" He angrily stomped his foot and turned to his leader for help. "Kes, are you just going to let her treat me like this?!! Back me up here!"
"She requires her supplies, Pon. I need you to do this not only for me, but for everyone else in our village, okay?" The masked figure spoke. "We don't have much time, so hurry up so we can return her."
"Tch- fine, fine...." He mumbled, trudging his way to the shop once more. "I'll be back soon."
Petta waited until he left before speaking to the other next to her. "Why didn't you come to my shop instead?" She asked. Although it's been many years since their first encounter, she still fondly remembers the Leo she befriended when she was younger. "I would've been able to help and treat you there."
"I...I'm sorry..." She tiredly spoke. "It was hard enough traveling here. I'm extremely weak and vulnerable in this environment, the heat may end up killing me if I'm not careful...."
"Your friend did a good job solving that. My whole shop is a giant icicle now. Most of my plants are probably dead because of him."" She mumbled, not too happy from all the damage he caused. If they truly needed her help, barking demands and attacking her was certainly not the best course of action.
Kes picked up the tone of her voice and once again apologized. "Pon is reckless, but his heart is in the right place. He never meant to harm you, I swear. He's extremely worried about the state of our home, and it shortened his patience and judgment ever since we began traveling. I'm truly sorry about your shop and all your flowers, I really am. Once I get better...I....promise to.....h-"
She stopped mid-sentence and coughed a bit. Speckles of blood scattered on the small bed of snow she was resting on, and Petta reached over to grab her hand.
"It...it's fine!" She spoke. Maybe for now, the well being of her shop could wait. There were more important matters to take care of. "Let's get you and your village healed and tended to first, alright? For now, just rest."
Kes gave a nod and settled back down. "I still can't believe you remember me, even after all these years." She weakly chuckled. "Not a good impression, ey?"
"Well, it's not everyday someone kidnaps you. You Leos sure know how to make a....ah, memorable entrance." She teased. "I never forgot the first time we met, and after this incident, I most certainly won't be able to forget you guys now. Let's just hope I get you up to par before Arty and the others find out."
"Is...Meta still living there?" She asked, quite interested in her old friend once she brought them up. They haven't seen each other once she left Kalmari when they were kids. Would he even remember her if they were to meet again?
"He is, actually." She smiled, remembering how close they were. "I'm sure he'll want to meet you once this is all over. Y'know, he carries an old charm around with him everywhere. I asked about it one day, and he said it was a gift from South Nova. I'm....assuming it was from you, huh?"
"I'm surprised he still has it." She smiled back, happy to know her friend never broke their promise. "I gave it to him when he was in my village. Glad to know it didn't break apart after so long...."
"Which is hard to believe. I remember a few years back Arthur tossed it onto the plaza fountain and he wouldn't stop crying until his teacher fetched it out for him."
"Is that so?" Although it pained her, she couldn't help but giggle. Since the demon attack she couldn't remember the last time she smiled and laughed like this. Maybe things will get better. Hopefully. Resting in her arms, the Leo closed her eyes and tried to rest until her comrade returned.
