A Frozen Leo's Return
Chapter. 2
"Hey, that's weird...." Meta spoke, gazing up at the sky once it stopped snowing. "Teacher, it looks like the clouds are clearing up."
"It seems so. Maybe something scared it off...." He spoke, figuring the Demon Beast who caused it suddenly became frightened and ran to another area.
"Are you sure it was a Demon Beast, though?" Arthur asked. "Usually they'd at least make an appearance or cause some sort of rampage."
"Hm, yeah...." The old warrior hummed, scanning the area to see any sight of it. "Let's not jinx it this time and call ourselves lucky."
With the hunt off, all three landed in Kalmari Plaza to resume the rest of their day.
"I need to head over to Petta's shop to pick up my order." Bate said, bidding farewell the the pair. "Thank you for all your assistance this morning."
"It's no problem, Teacher Bate." Arthur said joining him. "I need to return her scarf, so I'll come with you." He spoke, ignoring Meta's stupid bantering and kissing noises in the background.
"Meta be nice." Bate spoke, softly chuckling as he turned the corner to her shop.
"But it's true." He teased, waiting for Arthur's usual snappy reply anytime he mentions her. This time, he didn't get a response back. Before he had a chance to speak again, Arthur dashed past him followed by Bate. Meta blinked a few times in confusion only to finally run towards the others when he looked up and noticed Petta's shop was completely destroyed.
"PETTA!" Arthur shouted as he tried to push the door open. When it didn't budge, Arthur forcefully kicked it until the sound of what sounded like glass breaking was heard. The door and shards of ice scattered the floor, and Arthur took a shaky breath as everything in the store was frozen.
"P-Petta...." He choked. "Petta...are you in here?"
"I....don't understand." Meta spoke, once catching up. He looked at the burned walls and frozen flowers, shocked Petta would use her fire in her own store. " What happened, do you think she was fighting something?"
"You idiot, of course she was!!!!" Arthur spun around and snapped at him for asking such a stupid question. "Are you blind, look at this place!!!"
"Arthur, settle down." Bate cut in, placing a firm hand on his shoulder to calm him. "Check in the back to see if she's there while I see if any other shops in town were effected."
Rubbing the tears from his eyes, Arthur didn't speak and made his way to the back. Meta watched as Bate left the shop, and the lone warrior took in his surroundings of the frozen room.
"What sort of creature is responsible for this..." He softly spoke to himself, taking a closer look at the icicles. "It couldn't have been an Ice Dragon, they usually have ridged pillars when they shoot ice....." He mumbled. "A Chilli...? Or maybe an Antler......" He thought.
Using his hand to touch the smooth surface of the ice, he continued to think. "They wouldn't have had the power to turn this whole room into ice....and so quickly, too." He said. "If not, then what else would cause it?"
"Meta, did you find anything?!!!" Arthur entered from the other room and began looking for any clues or notes. "She was supposed to finish up the last of the orders once I left but nothing's been touched. Something happened to her, someone took her, we need to find the ones responsible for this now!"
"Arthur, please....." He tried to reassure his comrade. "We'll find her, okay? Let's scan the area and see if we can find a lead, alright?"
Anxiously fluffing up his wing, Arthur huffed as he made is way outside and took off. Meta waited for his mentor to return and informed him about the creature who caused it.
"Nothing I'm coming up with is leading to the culprit, Teacher." He said. "Do you know any other ice beasts that could cause this?"
Meta watched as Bate mimicked what he did a while back. He gently touched the icicles around him and carefully looked at the frozen flowers and furniture that's been sealed in a thick layer of ice. Crossing his arms, the elder tapped his foot a few times before facing his student.
"There is one....." He said, thinking of all the encounters he faced in South Nova over the years "Whatever caused this must have been powerful, and there's only one creature I know besides Atka that could've caused a whole room to be frozen in such a quick manner."
"Really?" His voice raised. "Who?"
"You don't remember, Gumball?" He asked, pointing to several of the frozen chairs and cabinets. "A room made of snow and ice....a place isolated from the outside world, and protected by constant blizzards."
The words he spoke eventually sunk in, and the colors of his eyes behind his mask shifted colors. "W-wait, you don't mean...."
"Yes, it could be possible we're dealing with the works of a Frozen Leo. But why they would only attack Petta is beyond me. They may want something she has...or knows..." "He said, looking around the area. "Nothing's been moved or stolen. My guess is they needed her for something."
"They knew where she worked at. They knew exactly where to strike and who to look for...." Meta said, his heart sinking from the realization of who it may be. "I gotta go, Teacher. I have to find them before Arthur gets to them first."
Making his way out and heading straight to the outskirts of West Nova, Meta truly hoped this wasn't going to be a case where he'd have to use force to stop the culprit.
