A Frozen Leo's Return
Chapter. 1
"So...this is Kalmari, ay?"
The male Leo spoke as he took in the surroundings of the small town. Behind him, another Leo tiredly sat under one of the trees to shade herself. As much as she wanted to take a look at the old town she grew to love, she was too frail and weak to do so at this time. Instead, she just listened to her comrade whine about it.
"It's...not impressive." He finally spoke, walking forward and pointing to the large forest in the center. "I mean....how could you if there's hardly any snow. Those trees are so....bare and ugly without their powdery coat. Not to mention it's kinda hot. Who would even want to live in a place like this? I feel like I'm gonna melt..." He slumped his shoulders and used his hand to fan himself.
"Enough complaining, Pon." The other finally spoke. She looked up at him, clearly not in the mood to waste time bickering. "We didn't come here to sight see, so focus on our task and just find the one we're looking for."
"You honestly can't expect me to work in these conditions, do you? Sweet Kelderon, I feel like I may parish as well....."
His wines didn't last long when she forced herself up and threateningly pointed her lance at him. With little to no lenience in her voice, she spoke again. "Find the one we're looking for and then we can head back...h....-" Clutching her side and unable to finish her sentence, she fell back on the floor as a surge of pain hit her.
"K-Kes!" Her comrade gasped in fear when she collapsed. He gently lifted the frail figure and placed her under the tree she was originally resting under.
"I...I'm sorry." He apologized for goofing off. "You're right, I'll go right now. Please rest, I'll find the one you described."
"Remember." She warned, "Do not talk nor been seen by anyone, do you understand?"
He gave a quick salute and made his way towards the plaza. Eventually, she turned her attention to the town to finally get a good look at it. Weary eyes gazed at all the shops in the distance until she eventually closed them as her vision became blury. With a weak breath, she waited for the other to return.
----
"Oh, Arty, aren't they beautiful?" Petta took a step back to admire her work. "It took two whole years of love and labor but I finally got several Maxium tomatoes to grow."
Arthur raised a brow and observed the extremely small red tomatoes dangling from the branch. "It's not even the size of my thumb. Are they usually this small?"
"Well, this one's still growing. It'll take another year or so for it to mature." She explained.
"Huh....well, you better hope no birds get to it, then. It'll be a nice little appetizer for them." He joked.
She softly giggled back and lifted the pot to the display window. "Here, let's give it some sun, I'm sure it'll grown even more if I-"
Petta blinked in surprise when she looked out the window. The once sunny sky was now covered with a blanket of grey, dark clouds. "Hey, Arty....did you know it was going to snow today?"
"Snow?" He questioned, looking out the window as well. "We're in the middle of summer, there shouldn't be any snow for another several months....."
"Could it be a demon beast....?" She asked, knowing there's quite a few that has the ability to shift the weather.
"It's possible." He softly spoke, watching many of shoppers in the plaza take shelter. "Let me get Teacher Bate and we'll see what's causing it."
"Hm!" She nodded, but then held out her hand to stop him."Oh, wait-!"
Arthur watched as she ran to the back of the shop. He heard her rummaging through one of the cabinets, and he slightly perked when she returned with a scarf. Walking over, Petta wrapped it around him.
"It looks like the chill is really starting to pick up, please stay warm." She said.
Arthur couldn't help but smile. "Of course." He leaned forward and pecked her on the lips.
Dashing out the door, Petta gave a small wave before heading in the back to finish tending to the rest of her orders. When the sudden chime of the door caught her attention, Petta playfully rolled her eyes and figured he left something behind.
"Oh, Arty, did you forget some...thing...." Her voice became but a whisper when she felt the sudden drop in temperature. Frozen in fear, she gazed at the masked figure wielding a large blade blocking the door way. It took a step toward, and Petta took a step back. Usually it would be rude to show hostility towards a customer, but Petta had a feeling this was no ordinary customer.
"W-who are you?" She asked. "Y-your presence is causing an unsafe environment for my plants. Please leave or I'll-"
"Your name is Petta, correct?" He cut her off.
"I...ah....." She trembled and backed up even more when she heard his voice. Why would he want to know anything about her? Who in Nova was he? Maybe....he's trying to get to Arthur? Was...he tracking him down? Maybe even hurt him?? No. There was no way she was going to let anyone hurt him. The only thing she could possible do is wait to buy him some time and maybe, just maybe use her fire to fight him off.
Straightening her pose, Petta glared at the figure in front of her. "I....don't believe I know who you're talking about. I'm not Petta." She fibbed.
"Liar!!!!" He barked and pointed his sword towards her. Taking a step to the now quivering figure, he raised his weapon high. "I don't have time to mess around, so I'm not going to repeat myself again. Are you not the Burning Leo named Petta. If you do not answer me, there will be consequences!"
He kept a firm grip on his weapon, but soon backed up when he felt a wave of heat hit his face. He watched in fear as embers scattered the floor; quickly rising the temperature to an unsafe level for him.
"Fine, have it your way, then." She spoke, lifting up her hand as a rather large flame appeared in the center of her palm. "Yes, I'm Petta, and if you think I'm going to let you hurt Arthur, then you're wrong!" She barked back, shooting several flames at him.
Jumping back, he summoned a flurry of crystal spears and aimed them at her. He knew he had to do something quick before she gets the advantage. Petta refused to be intimidated and quickly melted each one. As she was about to raise her hand to strike him with another ball of fire, she yelped in surprise when the figure encased her hand in a pillar of ice! Lifting her other hand to strike, the figure soon encased that one as well.
"N-no..." She tried to summon her fire, but was unable to due to the dropping temperature returning once more. Struggling against the ice, she looked up at the figure now towering before her.
With little to no fight left in her, Petta closed her eyes, accepting defeat. "Do what you will, but I'm not saying where he is. Once Arthur finds out you killed me, he'll show no mercy to you."
"You don't need to worry about that." He spoke, quite relieved he won against his natural weakness. "I'm not looking for him. In fact, I don't even know who this Arthur you speak of is."
He leaned in closer and softly whispered something to her. "Actually, I'm looking for you."
"M-me?" Hearing that caused Petta's heart to skip a beat. Before she had the chance to yell for help, he quickly moved his hands forward, and the pillars of ice completely engulfed her.
