The official design for Dragato’s little bab, Tali~!! If you saw yesterday, I added a new comment section...but it got very buggy and I had to delete it. So ignore what you saw the day prior, I was just testing things, that sadly did not work out in the end. >x<;;;;
Okay, anyways!!! I'm going to post some detail of Tali below, and how Dragato ended up finding/adopting her~ So please read below if you want to learn more about her~!
Adult Dragato (Early 20s) and Baby Tali
Dragato is now the only one who is not married in his group of friends. Many wonder when he’s gonna get hitched, but Dragato doesn’t particularly care. He just waves it off and says it’ll happen when the right person appears. Besides, he’s too busy traveling around the world with Cite to be hunkered down. I have mentioned in previous illustrations that Dragato left the GSA much earlier than the others, because he wasn’t happy being there. He’d much prefer to be with Cite, and travel the world as his body guard. Dragato later took up photography as a hobby, and loves to photograph scenery on their trips.
During one of their travels to a museum in North Nova, Dragato went off on his own during his free time, and finds a very badly damaged egg while photographing the landscape. It was nestled under the rotting remains of a creature Dragato was not able to identify. Authorities wanted to discard the egg when he brought it to them. It’s not uncommon for orphaned eggs to be sold or discarded in North Nova. The image of the rotting carcass protecting said egg causes Dragato to immediately become its new caretaker. For said creature to protect that egg with its dying breath, Dragato knows he has to give it a chance at life.
He tells them he’ll gladly take the egg back to his home in West Nova- which they agree after asking for a hefty sum of money. So, after an agreement is made, several adoption forms are signed, and Dragato becomes the father on an unidentified creature.
Dragato takes a leave of absence from his travels with Cite to look after the egg. It’s cracked and damaged, so Dragato spends sleepless nights tending and caring to said egg. Eventually, it hatches into a healthy baby Zoos! But unlike Gravel, its appearance is different. This one is tan/brown with speckles and horns! A large frilled tail and even wings!
After a trip to Mends, it’s later revealed that Tali (The name Dragato has given her) is a hybrid. A cross between a Zoos and what looks to be a type of dragon. Not much is known about them here in West Nova. Mends suggests Dragato to brush up on his reading since he’s now the father of one.
So Dragato does just that. He visits North Nova. A LOT. One reason is to study and learn about Tali’s species (Which he does through library scrolls and chatting with the locals in taverns), but another reason is for Tali to be around her birthplace. Because of it, they’ve been to North Nova many times over the years. It has helped Dragato learn a lot about Tali and her heritage.
While Tali was just an infant, Dragato was able to learn that she’s a special type of Zoos who come from a tribe who have bonded with a powerful creature called winged Eggers. Eventually, Tali will be quite powerful and potentially dangerous since Winged Eggers are very temperamental, wild creatures.
While raising Tali, Dragato notices exactly that. Tali is strong. Very strong for her a child her age- stronger than him at times if she wanted to be. Her tail being able to easily damage furniture and crush stone. Her powerful bite that can chomp through bone like a toothpick. Her claws must be filed down to prevent anyone from getting hurt. Her skin is that of a dragon- strong, and sturdy. Her sense of smell is powerful, and her instincts to hunt is strong. She could also use fire at a very young age.
As a toddler, she is seen walking/ running on all fours trying to hunt insects. She would growl in response, or to speak. Her English is not as prominent, and many thought she was a wild animal. Eventually, Tali (Age 4/5) would learn to walk properly, and speak quite well thanks to Dragato’s patience. BUT, she does not know her own strength. She sometimes crushes plates/tableware, or breaks the handle off of doors. She would quickly apologize and feel horrible for doing it. She’d often hide in Dragato’s wings when it happens because it’s not uncommon for her to break produce stands or shelves while shopping. Many see her as a menace, or dangerous.
Like all kids, she’s still VERY playful. Loves to run around and is much too curious for her own good. Her appetite is that of Kirby- she LOVES meat and fish. Sometimes she’ll just grab something from the store and start munching on it. Dragato has been scolded many times by the storekeepers, and Dragato has to teach Tali that she just can’t eat what she wants.
She also doesn’t know self-restraint. Like- if she wants something in the store that’s on the highest shelf, she’ll literally just climb the shelf to get what she wants instead of asking someone for help. Or if something is closed/locked- like the door of Bate’s home. She’ll ram the door and break it off its hinges to get in. Or (my favorite) if she sees a bee hive, she’ll climb the tree, reach in and start chomping on the honey comb with little to no regards to her safety. I guess….very impulsive is the right word for it. (This is around the 2-8 age. Her behavior does improve as she grows older.)
And yes, while she does her best to maintain a low temperament, there are times (Like all kids) where she’ll have a tantrum. But said tantrums can be quite scary since she’s able to breathe fire, and is literally a walking powerhouse tank. She’s hurt many- scratches, bruises and even burn marks. Many have learned to stay away from her.
There are some, though, who will hurt her. (Not badly) But swat a broom in her face, or squirt her with a water bottle. Tali would usually growl and then chomp on it after a certain point of badgering. Again, many see her as a wild animal and treat her as such.
One incident in particular, she wanted to pick up some fruit for her father (Tali was around 5 years old) and while she was reaching out to grab some at the market, the store owner hit her with the broom and tried to push her out. Tali being much muuuuuch stronger than a Squishy broke the broom and started to knock down all of the stands when the owner began throwing fruit at her. She growled, slashed, bit, and caused a lot of damage that day. Dragato had to make his own fruit and vegetable garden so she didn’t have to go in town as often.
Despite what others think. Dragato loves his daughter so very much. She is the greatest thing in his life, and he doesn’t care how others see her. He hears the terms many refer to her- animal, beast, demon. As Tali grows older, she’s starting to become more aware, and it hurts her when she hears those terms. Dragato always comforts her, tries to ease her troubles. There will always be those who will see her as such a thing, but he will always remind her that she is not those term they label her as.
In North Nova, she gets along with the locals much easier. But, of course, there are those who call her a *Mutt. AKA the worst thing to call a Zoos. And Dragao’s temper has reached his limit many MANY times. But he has to remind himself that it’s not worth it.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Side note:
The term Mutt will be explained further with several illustrations, but I’ll post some quick info below:
If you don’t already know, North Nova is one of the planets in my series. It’s a vast desert where only few can thrive in without succumbing to the heat. There are hot spots for tourism and such, but a majority of the land belong to the inhabitants who are able to withstand the heat. Once you venture away from the safe zones, you could perish.
The planet is broken into several territories. But the main two are ruled by the Sasukes. (AKA Ramset’s species) and the Zoos/Bukisets (AKA Gravel’s species.)
So. These two groups hate one another for territorial reasons. I guess the main thing to take away from this is that there’s a certain derogatory term in North Nova that’s used to describe the Zoos. Ramset’s dad, King Hiero, (Aka the current leader of one of the main territories) has called Gravel this term many times. And this term is called a “Mutt”. Which is a name that reflects their view on the species as a whole- stupid, lowly, filthy, mongrels that should not be classified as an intelligent species. It’s very degrading to be called one, and offensive when used in conversation- or in general, actually.
Not everyone sees Zoos as such. It’s usually the older gen who still uses that term. AKA Ram’s dad and older. Of course, there are still younger gens who have been conditioned by their family to think such a way.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With that out of the way, let’s change the topic to GRANPARENTS!!! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ* ・゚✧
When Tali was born, Gravel had already sadly passed. Ramset, Bate and Gordon are still alive, however. Tali is a constant reminder that they aren’t spring chickens anymore. Ramset having his back constantly getting thrown out, Bate having issues with his bad leg and joins, and Gordon. Well, Gordon is fine, actually. XDD The only issue was when Tali broke off one of his prosthetic spikes so she can play with it. He’s the only one who can handle the super rambunctious Zoos.
Despite their aching bodies, the Grandpas love to spend time with their grandbaby~ <333
When it comes to the cousins:
Tali loves to rough house, but because of her strength, she’s scolded by Meta when she gets too focused and tunes out Kirby’s calls for her to stop. Arthur does not allow Atticus to play with her since his health is too fragile. Atticus usually sits with his parents or Grandpa when the cousins are off playing. But sometimes he likes to sneak away and makes flower crowns for her- But she usually eats it most of the time. As they got older, Atticus is able to play in small moderations.
Tula could be considered the perfect playmate for her. Both are very energetic and are able to easily keep up with one another. Tula is nowhere near as strong as her, but she’s vocal enough where Tali is able to listen when she’s playing too rough.
Cellic (Like Gordon) isn’t too effected by her roughhousing. But she has been known to accidently break his spikes at times. (Description on this illustration explains how his spikes are able to grow back.)
Kirby doesn’t see Tali often since he lives on Pop Star. Because Dragato and Tali travel to North Nova often, they’re usually not around when Kirby visits Kalmari. But despite that, they love to play, race, eat and spend time with each other like typical boisterous kids.
Small info on Tali:
Tali is still learning a lot during this age. She is happy go lucky- very hands on. And is just a ball of absolute energy. Her claws are trimmed since Dragato doesn’t want her to harm any of her cousins. But she doesn’t mind. Just replies with a “Yes, Papa.” And allows them to be trimmed down before she runs off in shrieks, and happy yells. Her English is a tad bit broken, and her sentences are short. Straight to the point. Doesn’t like to drag.
“Kirby, play!” When she asks to play with Kirby.
“Food!” When she’s hungry.
Simple “Yes.” “No.” Or just head shakes when asked.
Tali loves to utilize her strength during this age. She’s young, still testing it and loves to just go for it. Climbing trees, learning to fly, digging holes, jumping in the lake and pulling out a giant fish. Kirby is fascinated and impressed- saying her behavior is like a Gao Gao with how energetic she is. He loves to give her large sticks and be like “Hey, can you break this?” And she’s like “Give here.” before snapping it like a twig. Kids being kids at being fascinated, basically.
Tali is like Kirby and Tula, but on a higher level. Happily wagging her tail and tackling Kirby to the ground, and asking to play.
So in a nutshell- Tali is impulsive, and full of energy. Curious and acts on instincts rather than logic. She’s still learning while being taught under the calm nature of her father, Dragato. She does feel bad when she breaks something, and usually becomes less active until the threat is gone- hiding under the protective wings of Dragato. But she is trying. Always trying until her impulsive curious nature kicks in.
Small/ miscellaneous info on the relationship Tali shares with Dragato:
Tali never questioned why she looked so different from her father until others pointed it out for her. She imprinted on him once she hatched, so as far as she's concerned, Dragato is her papa, and nothing will convince her otherwise. Tali will always listen to what Dragato says, and tries to learn from his teachings. He is very patient and soft spoken when she does something wrong by mistake. Tali sees him as a beacon of comfort and support. She loves her papa so very much, so it's not surprising Tali is VERY protective of him as she grows older. Being very strong for her age, Tali will not hesitate to hurt anyone who puts a hand on him. Dragato always has to calm his daughter down if an argument breaks out, because he doesn't want to start any sort of altercation that'll lead to both parties being hurt.
When it comes to traveling or dangerous demon beasts, Dragato will be there to protect and shield her. In time, Tali would do the same when she would get older. Dragato is quite proud to see how powerful and strong she's become as a young adult. Tali also learns as she grows older that relying on her strength and power is not always such a good thing when scuffles break out. She tries to follow in her papa's footsteps to de-escalate things first before the fist goes flying.
As a baby, Tali would sometimes shoot fire out of her mouth when she sneezed or was sick. It wasn't uncommon for poor Dragato's hair or beard to accidently be set ablaze. Dragato has sustained many injuries raising her- scars or bite marks were common since she was a handful as a hatchling. Dragato nips it all in the bud and knows Tali never means to harm him.
----
As an adult, Tali is curious about her biological parents and origins once she meets another Zoos that looks just like her. She is later introduced to her tribe, and is warmly welcome into the clan she never knew she had. She learned her family has passed on, but many (basically all) members of the clan treat her as family. After spending much time with them, she is given a choice to live with them (They migrate and travel the world of North Nova) , or stay with Dragato. She is hesitant at first, but Dragato reassures, and is very supportive whatever decision she makes, He just wants to her to be happy, and if going with them makes her happy, then he'll be happy too.
Tali ends up choosing Dragato in the end. She appreciates their offer of being part of their family, but Dragato is her family. She's not ready to say goodbye to him just yet. Although they're disappointed, they understand her decision and begin their migration. Tali will continue to live with her father in Kalmari town. They still travel to North Nova several time out of the year, so Tali will sometimes meet them if she's able to pinpoint their location.
