Son of Arthur
Chapter. 3
“Atticus, open your mouth.” Petta sternly spoke as she held the spoon of syrup in front of him.
The Leo furiously shook his head and covered his mouth with this hands. “No.” He muffled, “I don’t wanna take it."
“It’s going to spill, Atti, and you better believe your father will hear about this when he comes home tomorrow if you don’t take it at once.” She warned.
Atticus’ wings ruffled in fear from the mention of his dad. The last thing he wanted was to get him mad since Atticus promised to behave while he was away; for if he didn't, he wouldn’t get any of the gifts his dad brought back from Pop Star. He eyed the gross, purple looking medicine idly sitting on the spoon before eventually lowering his hands. With a rather loud groan, Atticus open his mouth and closed his eyes the moment the bitter concoction touched his tongue. He quickly swallowed and grabbed the water Petta had waiting for him after the fact.
“See, that wasn’t so bad.” Petta smiled and took the empty glass from his hand. Setting it aside, she reached over to grab his headpiece, and placed it on his nightstand.
“That’s because you're not the one who has to take it all the time.” He said, letting out a small yawn and shuffling into his blanket. Petta could only laugh at his response and reached over to help him.
“That’s true.” She said, tucking him in and pecking him on the cheek. “But it’ll help make you feel better, and you don’t want to be sick when dad comes home, right?”
“Mmhm...” He nodded, looking up. “Dad’s been gone for such a long time. Do....you think he’ll even remember us?”
“Oh, Atti- it’s only been a month.“ She light tapped him on the head. “Your father would never forget about us. I’m sure he’s eagerly waiting to get to back just so he could see you. I guess your Uncle Meta and cousin Kirby really needed him, hm?” She said as she recalled the conversation of Meta asking Arthur to help train Kirby.
“I hope so...” He spoke, still worried. He never had his dad leave for this long, and the possibility of him forgetting is plausible….to him, at least.
“Don’t worry, you’ll see in the morning,” Petta stood back up and turned off the lights. “But for now, how about you rest up for tomorrow?"
“O-okay...." He softly said. “Goodnight, Momma.”
“Good night, Atticus.” She quietly said and shut the door.
———--
Atticus could hardly contain his excitement when the door finally opened and his father walked in. The child quickly stopped playing with his toys and happily bounced on his heels as he eagerly waited for his mother to finish greeting him. Once all the 'gross' kisses and snuggles were out of the way, Petta stepped aside and Atticus darted to embrace Arthur.
"Atticus! Oh, I've missed you so much!" Arthur bent down to pick up his son.
"I've missed you too, dad." He spoke, nuzzling his cheek. He happily looked up once he was finished and asked the real question on hand. "Did you bring back any presents?!!"
"I've been away for a whole month, and the first thing you ask is gifts?" The elder laughed. He pointed to his suitcase and motioned Atticus to open it. Both parents took their seat in the living room as they watched their son go through all the souvenirs he bought for him.
"So, how's Meta doing? It's been quite a bit since I've last seen him." Petta asked as she continued to watch their son.
"He's fine...though I'd be lying if I said he wasn't a tab bit annoying. Kept asking about Teacher Bate, so...."
"Well, it's a good thing he wasn't visiting. He got into a small accident yesterday." She said, referring to the door fiasco.
"Wait, something happened to him?" He quickly looked at Petta in concern. "Is he okay? What happened?"
"It's fine, it's fine." She placed a hand on his shoulder to calm him down. "Someone just opened the door right when he was about to walk out of the shop. It hit him in the face and caused him to get a bloody nose, nothing major. He even came by later in the day since Atticus was a bit shaken up from it."
"Hmmm, well, okay. If you say so." Arthur eventually calmed down and went back to watching Atticus.
"And Kirby?" Pettta brought up the little warrior after Meta. "How did the training go?"
Petta watched as Arthur's serious expression melted to one of happiness and delight.
"Amazing, oh- Petta you should've seen it. The kid's a natural." Arthur tore his gaze from Atticus and smiled at his wife. His wings couldn't help but fluff up when he recalled the first day he trained him. "One day he could barely block any of my attacks, and fast forward to last week- he managed to block nearly all of them! His evasion is pretty well, and I was even trying to help him master the Guardian Wing. It reminds me of how Teacher Bate and I trained."
"So I'm guessing you had a good time?" Petta let out a small giggle when he noticed the blush on his cheeks. "That's good. I'm sure Kirby appreciates the lectures."
Arthur gave a nod of approval and watched his son opening another gift. "I just can't wait for Atticus and I to do the same." He spoke, his smile still intact. "It'll be great, just the two of us- Father and son, teacher and student."
Petta slightly raised a brow from his choice of words. "Well, it'll be some time. Atticus' body isn't accustomed for such a thing, yet."
"Neither was Kirby when he first started, but after several days he was-"
"Arthur, haven't we already went over this?" Petta cut him off and motioned him to take a good look at his son playing with the various stones and gems he bought for him. "Remember to take his interest to heart too. If Atticus doesn't want to pursue a life of training and fighting, you have to learn to accept, and be supportive of his decision. Don't force him to do something he doesn't feel comfortable doing, okay? I don't want him to get injured because you were being a teacher first, and a father second."
"I....O-of course. You're right, dear." Arthur eventually spoke and leaned to rest on the Leo's shoulder. "Still, you can't help imagine how he'll turn out in the end."
"Whatever path he ends up taking....." She paused for a moment and smiled when she saw Atticus happily playing with all of his new gifts. "I'm sure he'll be amazing no matter what."
The Leo furiously shook his head and covered his mouth with this hands. “No.” He muffled, “I don’t wanna take it."
