It's finally Elliot's time to shine!! >u<
Elliot is the only one who can relate to Bate on this subject since he spent a good portion of his life loathing Bate and Gordon. If Bate does go back, spening the rest of his life trying to find the ones who killed them won't solve anything. I guess the main reason he wants to do it is because he feels like it's his obligation to avenge them, but Elliot tells him that doing such a thing is pointless. It won't bring them back and he won't gain anything from it. (That and he wanted nothing to do with Elliot and Ellie up to this point until he learned the truth.)
Instead, Elliot tells him that he needs to spend the rest of his years enjoying them. He has a new life, and abandoing it to focus on his past would ruin everything he worked for.
