The World of Tundra
Tulok / Meta Knight / Wulfric / Kesuk

“I expect nothing less of my future successor, so let’s get a move on so I can plan my retirement!”
Wulfric lets out a roaring laugh that echoes throughout the land. He skids through the ice at a blinding speed as if riding through the wind. His family trails behind, and Wulfric looks back at them before picking up his pace. Family or not, he’s not going easy on them. The duties of Chief are of the utmost importance, after all.
Kes is close by- as expected from the daughter of the Chief. Her husband, Meta Knight, is doing a marvelous job for a nonnative of South Nova- nearly matching her speed and swiftness. The fluttering of his cape gifted to him by Wulfric whips in the wind. It does a good job insulating him from the frigid temperatures- allowing the knight to take part in his son’s training. He glides seamlessly though the air alongside his wife, but not before glancing back to check on the final member of their family.
Tulok, the future chief of the village, trails a small bit behind everyone else. A determine grin shines proudly on his face as the young hybrid does his best to keep up with the rest.
“Once we check the fishing grounds, we’ll head out to assist the new hunting group, and then oversee several important trades with one of the neighboring villages. As future Chief, you need to treat each job with the utmost importance and attention. The Chief is responsible for the survival and safety of the village. Remember well, my grandson.” He yells out to the Leo.
“Yes, Grandfather!!” He loudly speaks since the distance between them is getting further apart. Tulok starts to pick up his pace so he can be closer to him.
“Tulok, pace yourself.” Meta speaks when he sees the child rushing past him. “The fishing ground is still a mile away. Don’t over exert yourself.”
Being a mixture of Ice Leo and puffball- a hybrid whose health is just as fragile as the freshly powered blanket of snow they’re stepping in, Meta couldn’t help but display his fatherly instincts when Tulok begins to push himself.
“If I’m able to defeat you in battle, then running to the fishing grounds is nothing!”
“Yes, my son, but we still have several more locations to survey afterwards. Don’t forget.”
‘Yeah, I know. I just want to catch up to Grandfather Wulfric, I’ll be fine.” He speeds up a bit more, but it doesn’t take long before he lags back to Meta again. A bit more winded, and a bit more tired than before.
“And this is why we listen to our elders.” Meta teases.
Tulok angrily grumbles under his mouth from his father’s snarky remark. “Speak for yourself. You’re falling behind as well, dad.”
Kes starts to hear the commotion behind her, and she begins to slow down to match her speed with Meta and Tulok. She silently stares at the two before bright blue and purple eyes begin to illuminate from her mask. Tulok stumbles from her icy stare, and the three start to slow down before ultimately coming to a stop. Wulfric eventually notices as well, and heads over to the trio.
“What’s going on?” Wulfric’s voice is understanding, but still has an air of strictness to it.
Kes walks to her boys before pitching their wings in frustration. “Both of you are going to tire out if you continue to bicker. Meta, you already know the freezing atmosphere is very dangerous to an outsider. Only talk if needed, you’re going to catch a serious cold if not.”
“Of course. My apologies, dear. I didn’t mean to get you worried.” Meta gives a small bow.
She nods and then looks at her son. “Tulok, I don’t need you overexerting yourself on the first job of the day. These are some of the easiest tasks the Chief oversees, and if you fall ill before the sun even rises, we’ll have to travel all the way back to the village because you failed to listen to us. Pay attention to the objective in hand, and focus on our destination. South Nova isn’t a place to squabble, understand?”
“Y-yeah, I know. Sorry, Mom….” Tulok follows suit.
Both understand her reason for her lashing out at them. Anytime they visit South Nova, her softer, caring side is replaced by her louder, stricter half. They know her strict demeanor is only because she doesn’t want any of them getting hurt- or worse, killed. South Nova is very unforgiving, and all it takes is one mistake for an incident to occur. She has lost many close friends and loved ones from the tundras wrath, so the last thing she needs is to lose someone as precious as her husband or son.
Wulfric steps in, and places a gentle hand on Kes’ shoulder to motion her to keep moving. She eventually breaks her gaze from the pair, and faces the direction of the fishing grounds.
“Okay, then. Let’s head out.” She speaks and sprints towards their destination. This time, Wulfric slows to Tulok’s pace. Kes is familiar with each location, so he’s fine with letting her lead while he talks to his grandson.
“You have a big role to fulfil in the future, my Grandson. This task is just one of many you’ll be handling when you take my place as Chief. So please mind your mother and remember to be mindful of your surroundings. Know your limitations and set boundaries for yourself. I know it seems like your Grandfather is an all-powerful warrior of Tundra, but even I need to take a break from time to time.
Tulok does not speak, but gives a heartfelt nod to his advice.
“You will be a magnificent Chief, one day, Tulok. Greatness runs in your family, after all.”
An image of Tulok’s older brother quickly flashes in his mind for a brief moment. To be as great as Kirby…
“Thank you, Grandfather Wulfric. I’ll do my best.”
