Concept sketches for a new bab. I maayyy change the name. I'm torn between Tulok (Meaning Warrior) or Siku (Meaning Ice) I'm keeping Tulok for now. <333
I posted two versions here. His unmasked, and Masked design. So, if you're wondering why his mask is similar to Kes, it's because he is an Ice Leo! x)
Strange, though....usually the eye color of most Ice Leos are muted. His, however, are bright orange! He stands out a lot in his village. Not only for his eyes, but having such large wings! Tulok isn't a huge fan of them as he gets made fun of by many. He uses a belt to strap them close so they don't get in the way. He often finds them a burden, but that doesn't mean he doesn't know how to fly. Tulok is a magnificent flyer and has trained himself to navigate through harsh blizzards and fierce winds with them. If you ever see him unstrapping those binds, run. He's extremely fast, and only does it when breaking point is reached.
While his mask is similar to Kes, the shape and design does not represent that of a hunter. Tulok is a tracker and master navigator. He will scan the barren land of South Nova and pinpoint a herd, or the smallest creature camouflaged. Although his role is not a hunter, he knows how to hunt thanks to his Mother and Grandfather. Both Elder Leos are master hunters and taught the young icicle how to take care and fend for himself if he were to ever get lost or stranded.
The reason why Tulok has unusual features for his kind is because he (Like Atticus) is a hybrid. He is half Frozen Leo, and half Puffball. He takes after his mother (Leo), and inherited her ice abilities. One of the few things Tulok got from his father is his wings, and part of his eye color. His father, however, did teach him how to fly. Most of his learning skills, though, was thanks to his maternal Grandfather. He has a strong bond with the elder Leo and learned many things from hunting, tracking, and even reading and speaking the language of their ancestors. Tulok has great respect for him, and hopes one day to be like him, and take over his role of the village leader.
Because Tulok is a hybrid, he is shown to have minimal resistance to the cold. A fully grown Frozen Leo is able to withstand freezing temperatures, but he had a very hard time when the cold season came. If Tulok wanted to be like the other Leos in South Nova, he needed to make the decision to move there, and train to the point where his body adapts and gets used to the cold. As much as it broke his Father's heart, Tulok left his home and moved to South Nova. (He carries an old scarf his father got him as a child to remind him how much he's grown) Many years of training helped him not only adapt to the cold, but his wings as well. There was a point in time where he was able to live in lukewarm areas, but as he grew, the warm weather became unbearable to live in. He rarely visits his old home, and admits he misses his family at times. He lives with his Grandfather, and as years passed, he's come to see the village as his family. Through time, many of the Leos who once picked on him now greatly respect him, and see him as their comrade and brothers in arm.
The purple feathers were a gift from his aunt. Since she lives far away and cannot see him, she gifted him several feathers. While she can't be around to protect him, she reassures, they will keep him safe from Demon Beasts, and ward off evil. They've done a good job, so far.
The relationship between his parents...are mixed. Because he lives in South Nova, he doesn't see them often. He loves them with all his heart, however, and will think of them quite often. His father feels like a failure for not being able to raise, and be there for him, but Tulok disagrees. He remembers his childhood where they would always train and play together before falling ill. He has fond memories of both parents, and says it's their love and support that makes him strive for a better future.
Tulok will continue to learn from his elders in South Nova, and hope he could be a suitable leader when the time comes.
