-The Pet Store-
(Bate / Meta)
If told how living with his teacher, Sir Bate, was, Meta would respond that it was….interesting. He would rarely complain; it was nice, truth to be told. He was given a fairly large room to sleep in, though from time to time he sneaks out and heads to the elder’s room if he has a nightmare. While living with Bate, Meta’s accumulated tons of plushies and toys he’s bought for him. His personal favorite treasure, however, is a large glass jar filled with his favorite candies he got on his birthday. One would say Bate spoils the little Puff, but he quickly denies it.
Regarding rules, Bate doesn’t ask much from Meta- just to keep his quarters tidy and not go into his room while he’s out of the house. He knows not to bug Bate when he’s reading or writing, or to badger him if he’s under the weather. His cooking wasn’t that bad, and he always has his favorite snacks and cereal on hand. Yes, living with Bate was extremely enjoyable. While Meta would never dare complain about Bate’s home, there was one, tiny little thing he feels it was missing.
“Teacher…?” Meta looked up from his bowl of cereal when he addressed his teacher. Bate, who was reading the paper, gave a small hum as a response.
“Ummm….can I ask you a question?”
“You may,” Bate said, still looking at his paper.
“Well….” Meta started fiddling with the marshmallows in his bowl, “Is it possible to go to the plaza today?”
Meta saw Bate set down his paper and looked at him. “What for?”
“Oh, umm….” Meta gave him a small smile, hoping he’d say yes, “A new pet store just opened across Marlo’s shop, and-“
“No.” Bate said before he could even finish.
“W-what?” Meta frowned, “But-“
“Gumball, I know what you’re going to ask, and the answer is no. You cannot have a pet.”
The little warrior was shocked that he knew what he was thinking before he could even had the chance to say it. Then again, he was his teacher- and he knows everything.
“But whyyyyy?” Meta asked, “I promise I’ll take care of it.”
“It’s a huge responsibility, Meta,” Bate explained, “Besides, you need to focus on your training, and not raising an animal."
Meta hung his shoulders and pushed his bowl away from his sudden loss of appetite. He gave a small nod, knowing it wasn’t wise to keep arguing with Bate.
“Now, it’s time to get ready for class,” Bate said as he finished off his tea, “We’ll head out in 5 minutes.”
“Yes, Teacher,” Meta pushed in his chair and went in the other room to wash up.
————--
“Teacher Gordon?”
“Yes?” Gordon, who was polishing a few of his weapons for their class, set the sword he was shining and faced the Puff. “Is there something you needed?”
Meta thought since Gordon was Bate’s best friend, he would be the perfect one to persuade Bate into getting a pet.
“Ah, I was wondering something about Teacher.”
“Hm?” What is it?” Gordon asked, his attention caught whenever it had to do about Bate.
“Well….has he ever had a pet before?”
“A pet? Hmmmm, I don’t believe so.” He said and went back to polishing.
“O-oh. But……” His voice lingered with persistence, “Do you think he’ll want one?”
“Bate….wanting a pet?” He chuckled at the thought of it. “He has you to take care of. I don’t think Bate could handle another.”
“A-are you sure?” He hoped he’d change his mind.
“I’m sure, Meta.” He handed him a sword and grabbed Bullet for himself, “They’re pretty dirty and always causing a mess….and you know how Bate is about cleanliness."
Gordon swung Bullet and Meta dodged, “B-but that’s what baths are for.”
“Yeah, that’s true.” He swung again and clashed with Meta’s sword, “I still don’t think that alone will change his mind. Bate isn’t particularly fond of their fur, it sets off his allergies."
“B-but…” Meta tried to think of a way to mend the issue, but-
“Meta!” Gordon yelled when he disarmed his sword, ”Pay attention!”
Meta slightly flinched and backed away when his sword flew out of his grip. Gordon sighed and summoned another hand to pick up the fallen weapon.
“Meta, I’m sure you already discussed this matter with Bate, and if he said no, it’s no. Taking care of a pet is too much work, and that’s something he doesn’t want to deal with at this time. “
“I know…but if can just give it a chance,” Meta took the sword from his hand, “I know he’ll love it."
“We’ll….talk to him over lunch, okay?” He said just for the sake of getting him to focus, “Now pay attention or I’ll change my mind.”
———--
Lunch quickly rolled by and Meta, who sat across from Bate, lightly tapped one of Gordon’s spikes to get his attention. Gordon glanced over and saw Meta slightly motioning towards Bate. The Gordo set his chopsticks down and cleared his throat before talking to him.
“Bate,”
The elder looked up from his plate. “Hm? What is it?”
“Oh, nothing much. I just…wanted to tell you if you knew that a new shop opened not to far from here."
Meta slighly beamed in excitement. Maybe this was actually going to work after all.
Bate, however, wasn’t amused, “Meta told you, didn’t he?”
The pair flinched. How in sweet nova did his teacher know already?
“But Teacherrrr,” Meta begged,
“I already told you no, Gumball,” He scolded and then looked at Gordon, “And that’s the last I’m going to hear of it, okay?"
