New character?!!!
YEEE!!!! This is King Grandy aka (Grand D)
As you can already tell by his design, he shares a very similar resemblance to King Dedede. Well!!! That’s because this bab is the father of the future king of Dreamland! And yes, this is the guy who sealed away Marx’s dad…if you read about Marx’s family I posted back in April 1st. XP
So! I think I should mention this before I delve further into the lore of Dedede. I absolutely, positively HATE the anime adaptation of Dedede. And it likely stems from when Kirby Super Star for the SNES released. I still remember playing it when it first came out, and it’s the one game where I started to give lore to these characters…as young as I was. XD One of the things I strongly believed in while playing the game is the relationship between him and Kirby. I always saw them as rivals, and less than enemies. Especially in Kirby’s Adventure and Crystal Shards. So, I grew up thinking he was just a stubborn, but still caring King. So, when the anime rolls in and they make Dedede into a huge fat JERK!!! I absolutely hated it.
For my version of Dedede, I want to make a mixture of both. To justify why he was a jerk sometimes. (And I just don’t want to hear people complain I made him too ooc.) So yes, he’ll be a small jerk in the earlier years, but he outgrows it eventually)
SO! Let’s begin. (This has heavy GW lore, so you must be familiar with my series to understand)
-----------------
Part 0: Small Intro (The Great King Grandy)
King Grandy, if you didn’t already know from his title, is the King of Dreamland. He is extremely powerful, and has the ability to wield the all-powerful Star Rod. He sees everyone in Dreamland as his family, and will do everything to protect and preserve the peace in it.
His family consists of his only son, Dedede. (Sadly, his Wife and Queen of Dreamland passed away when Dedede was still a chickling.) His mother, Kana, lives close by with her adopted child, Kirby. (Yes, THAT Kana)
Part 1: Of prophecy and Loss
It was foretold a Star Warrior is to be raised and trained by a queen and king of Pop Star. This Star Warrior holds unmeasurable power, and it was said this lone Star Warrior is to defeat the great evil that is Nightmare, and the void known as Dark Matter.
Kana, the current queen at the time, is to have a new addition to her family. Rumors spread it was a Warrior of the Stars. Which meant, it could be the child of prophecy. Although Kana was heavily guarded, action to terminate this child was immediate. Waves of demon beasts, monsters of all kind attacked and flooded the castle where she was held.
Although her troops and warriors were strong, they were eventually outnumbered and defeated. Grandy, who was a young adult at the time, watched in horror as his mother was brutally attacked. Kana lost her child that day, and stepped down from the throne soon after. Grandy took over after her mother recovered, and he and his wife became the next rulers of Dreamland. Grandy blames himself for not being strong enough to protect his mother during said time.
Part 2: The arrival of Kirby
Very little has been revealed about the origin of Kirby, and only a small few knows he is the child of prophecy. Grandy was to be put in charge of raising and training the infant, but he passed this task on to his mother who seemed very willing to fill the role as his caretaker. This was also around the same time Grandy’s wife passed away, so he was in no condition to raise another on top of his only son.
He later received word from a passing Sphere Doomer of two powerful warriors- one of which also holds the title of Star Warrior, and insists of having them guard and raise the child by Kana’s side. Grandy contemplates her words, and eventually allows it once he meets them.
Part 3: Enter Meta and Kesuk
Meta and Kes have a very good relationship with King Grandy. Grandy could tell how powerful and serious they were in protecting and preserving the life of what is said to be the last Star Warrior. King Grandy sees them and selfless, and noble warriors for helping his mother and Kirby. From time to time, Kirby and Dedede would spend a lot of time playing in the castle court yard, or castle halls. Kirby was a bit too young to remember it, however.
Part 4: The death of Kana
The passing of Kana (Who died of old age) hit Grandy hard. He loved his mother so very much, as did Dedede (who was around 8 or 9 at the time) Kirby was still a toddler during the passing, so Grandy allowed Meta and Kes to continue raising and training Kirby. He would provide them any assistance if they need it.
Part 5: The death of King Grandy
Dreamland fell into mourning after the death of their Great King. He sealed away an extremely powerful monster (AKA Marx's Dad) who lay destruction across the land, but the toll was too much on him, and he ended up passing away soon after. Dedede would become the new king, but since he was so young, he’d have many advisers to help him.
Part 6: The New King
Without the loving care and guidance from his parents, Dedede has become misled during his yearly teenage years. He would hear chatter among the town and castle- how Kirby, being the prophecy child, should take on the role as protector of Dreamland, and how Dedede was nothing like King Grandy.
This caused Dedede harbor a lot of resentment towards Kirby. (Though, he was mostly just jealous and lonely and sad. He often wonders how someone like Kirby; who was born with nobody, has two loving parents and the entire support of Dreamland, while he is left with nothing.) He’s often seen kicking Kirby aside whenever there was a Demon Beast attack, so he can defeat it on his own to prove his worth. Dedede’s mother, who was proficient in using a hammer as her weapon, has caused Dedede to follow suit. Dedede is STRONG, but due to his lack of training, he’s a bit clumsy and often trips.
Part 7: Like a Brother of mine
Just like Kalmari, Green Greens has small prayer shrines dedicated to those dearly departed. One evening while Kes pays her respects to her fallen comrades- Kia & Kavik, she spots Dedede crying over the grave of his parents and grandmother. He says he misses them so much, and he wishes they could still be there for him. He’s so lost and confused, and everyone sees him as a failure. He wants to be a great leader like his father, and a powerful fighter like his mother, but doesn’t know how.
Dedede didn’t expect company, and he certainly didn’t expect it to be the mother of the prophecy star child. Dedede is apprehensive at first and stands his ground. Kes just takes a seat and tells him he knows of someone who is in the same position as him. A child who once had great and powerful warriors, but who have sadly passed on. She feared he wouldn’t be able to learn and pass on his parents’ legacy. But eventually, in time, someone filled the roll of a mentor for him, and he’s been training hard to make his parents proud every day. (AKA Rupion)
King Grandy has been nothing but kind and selfless to her, Meta and Kirby, and Kes wants to return the favor back to him in some way. If Dedede truly wants to make his parents proud, then he needs to train with her and Meta. He and Kirby can train together and get stronger. Then, in time, both can take on the role of protecting Dreamland. When Dedede doesn’t give an answer, Kes says there’s no rush and gives him the location of their sparring grounds if he ever changes his mind.
Eventually, Dedede takes Kes up on her offer, and appears with hammer in hand to begin training. Kirby is excited as ever to have someone other than his parents to spar with, and basically clings on to Dedede like a younger brother.
Part 8: Current Day
After much time, much training, and much growing, King Dedede’s strength is on par with Meta and Kes- being able to level boulders with just a swing of his hammer. With what he lacks in speed, he greatly makes up in raw strength. Their small team of two, has become a team of 4 over the years – Kirby, Dedede, Gooey and Bandana Dee. Kirby and Gooey patrol the entirety of Pop Star, while King Dedede and Bandada Dee stick close to Dreamland.
King Dedede sees his squad like a family, and will often join the battle front if needed. He’s also learned to become the King and ruler he hopes his parents and Grandmother would be proud of.
