-The Favorite-
(Bate / Kade / Emma)
“Momma!!” Kade ran out of his room holding a small calendar in his hands. He dashed over to the kitchen where his mother was at and started to lightly poke her with it. “Mommaaaaa!”
“Kade, quiet down,” Ellie hushed as she turned off the faucet to tend to her son. “Your father’s sleeping so try to keep it down, alright?” She pointed to the other room to explain that Bate was resting.
The little Puffball gave a nod and held up the calendar. “Dad…umm...” He started to fidget with his words. “Ah…dad…is….umm…day…today..”
Ellie gave a small smile and pointed to the date circled on the calendar. “Ah, today’s the day he’s finally going to teach you how to fly, hm?
Kade gave a small chirp of approval. “Daddy! Up!”
“I know how excited you must be, but he’s still quite tired from playing with Emma yesterday. Do you think you could wait a few more hours?”
Kade fiercely shook his head. “B-but…”
“Now Kade,” She lightly scolded, “What have I told you about being patient?"
The tiny puff softly mumbled to himself. He didn’t feel like waiting, not today at least. His sister spent the whole day playing with him yesterday and when it’s finally his turn, he’s asleep! It was already late in the afternoon and his father still hasn’t woke!
Ellie sensed him getting routy so she motioned him to play in the other room. “Play with Emma until he wakes, alright? It won’t be long, I promise.” She kissed him on the head and continued with her cleaning.
Kade hung his shoulders and made his way back to his room.
“Don’t be sad, Kade,” Emma said as she placed another block on the tower they were building. “Daddy’s gonna wake up soon.”
Kade just glared at her and continued to finished his tower. He wasn’t really in the mood to have his sister around as she was to blame for Bate’s tiredness.
“It’s still the afternoon,” She gave her brother a small smile, “You have lots of time,”
“Hm….” He mumbled, his anger starting to rise when she kept talking.
“If not, you can just to it tomorrow, right?” She said, placing the last block on the top. “The two of us can spend today playing if he’s still sleepy.”
Kade shook his head and lifted his wings in anger, his patience finally reading his breaking point. He didn’t want to play, he wanted to finally learn how to fly! He’s been waiting months for this day, and Emma completely ruined it for him!
“NO!” He shouted, "I wanna fly!!”
Kade swiftly knocked over the tower, scattering blocks all over the room. A few of them hit Emma, and the little Squid held her arm in pain as she cried for her mother.
“M-mooooomaaaaa!” She called, still clutching her injured arm.
Ellie quickly ran in when she heard all the noise and dashed to Emma when she saw her crying.
“Emma, dear,” She picked her up to calm her, “What happened?”
The little Squishy cried in her mother’s arms and pointed to Kade. Ellie looked over and saw the furious Puff.
"Kade, I don’t condone this terrible behavior one bit,” She said, setting Emma down and marching towards her son. “Apologize and clean up this mess.”
“No!” Kade snapped back!” Emma’s fault daddy’s always tired! No flying!”
Hearing that just made Emma cry even more. “No it’s not!” She shouted in-between sobs.
“Yes!” He shouted back, “Emma’s fault!”
“No it’s not!!”
“Yes!!”
“No!!!”
“YES!!!”
“NO!!”
“Emma! Kade! That’s enough!” A gruff voice barked, quickly hushing the two.
All three looked over and saw Bate standing in front of the door way. He walked over and stood between the bickering twins. He let out a tired sigh, not really in the mood since his sleep was disturbed.
“Kade, apologize to your sister,” He sternly said.
The little Puff stubbornly looked away and started to chirp to his father, “But we were supposed to fly today! You promised!”
“Yes, and didn’t mom say I’ll teach you after I get up?”
“But it’s already late!” He shouted, “You played with Emma all day yesterday and forgot about me!”
“Kade, I didn’t forget about you.” He said, but noticed Kade was still angry. “And another thing, if this horrible attitude of yours continues I won’t be teaching you today, or tomorrow or even the rest of the week, got it?”
“W-what?!!!” Fear started to replace his anger. He didn’t want that, he didn’t want that at all! All he ever wanted to do was spend the day with his dad, but now he’s being scolded and punished for something he didn’t even do! It was Emma’s fault, not his!
“Why are you punishing me? It’s Emma’s fault!”
“Emma didn’t do anything wrong, Kade, and you know it. I want you to apologize for hurting her and then clean up your room.”
“B-but…” The little Puff looked at all the blocks surrounding them, “It’ll take all day to clean it! What about flying lessons?”
“If you start cleaning now, we can spend half an hour practicing when you’re done.”
"Half an hour? B-but we were supposed to spend the whole day together.” Tears started to swell up in his eyes from disappointment.
"Then you shouldn't have thrown a tantrum and hurt your sister," Bate pointed out, "Now get cleaning."
"That's not faaaaair!!" He flapped his wings in anger and started bawling. "You always p-play with Emma, not me!!! Y-you like her better, don't you!"
