-Protective Student-
(Bate / Meta)
There were certain things that can break his emotionless stare. Though it’s become rare over the years, it still exists.
Arthur, his brother and close comrade, knew all too well what could break such a thing. For one, it could be something simple like candy or his favorite meal. Other, more important things would be someone like his apprentice, Kirby, or his other comrades like Dragato or Falspar. Meta, though he rarely shows his expressive features around them, hints it from time to time to show he is capable of still having it.
After all these years, there was only one Arthur knew who was able to break Meta of his absolute reserved behavior. Anything he does could cause a flood of mixed emotions. Whether it be uneasiness and his instincts to be protective, or the carefree nature of laughter and satisfaction- this special Star Warrior was able to bring out the best, and worst of his stubborn comrade.
--
“T-teacher!” Meta shouted in distress as he headed to the elder Puffball. “What in sweet Nova are you doing?!!”
Bate, who was currently glancing down from the chair he was standing on, looked at Meta and tossed him the broken lightbulb. “Changing the lights….? This one seemed to have burned out.”
Meta gave an angry huff and glared at him when Bate’s feet was safely on the floor again. “Do you know how old that chair is?! You could've fell!"
“I’ve fell multiple times by you in the past, so if I can survive your adolescent days, then I'm most certainly able to change a simple light bulb."
A small blush formed on Meta’s face as he stubbornly looked away. “That’s not what I meant, Teacher. Y-you really could’ve hurt yourself."
Bate gave a small chuckle at his worrisome behavior. “But I didn’t.”
“But you could’ve….” He mumbled and put the chair back in its rightful spot.
“That’s true….” Bate mused to humor him, “Buuuuuut….."
“You didn’t-“ Meta distastefully finished the sentence as he watched Bate pass him and headed towards the kitchen. “Don’t you think you’re pushing it a little?”
“Gumball, if you just came by to lecture me about what I do is safe or not by your standards, then I suggest you talk to Falspar. He and Ramset threw knives at me yesterday for target practice..”
“They did what?!!!” Meta shouted in hysterics, but stopped when the tip of Bate’s wing made contact with his mask. He looked up and saw Bate eyes change to a bright yellow.”
“I’m kidding.” He simply said and lowered his wing. “Meta, nothing’s going to happen to me, alright?”
Bate knew all too well how protective Meta’s been ever since he moved to Pop Star a few years back. Although Meta and the others pay regular visits to Kalmari from time to time, Bate could sense how anxious Meta’s become through the years. Of course, Bate feels the same when it comes to the Meta- his student is thousands of miles away living a life of his own. He’s unable to be there for him, and yes- it does tend to worry him, but he believes he’s done quite a damn fine job raised quite an exceptional warrior to handle and take care of himself.
--
Of course Meta worries, why shouldn’t he? He lives across the galaxy from his teacher, and that’s not a quick distance to travel. He visits more often than usual and even badgered Bate into getting a relatively new, simplistic communication device so they could be able to talk to one another- a phone, he believes they were called. But still, if something were to happen to him while he was away….
