-Preparing for In-laws-
(Bate / Ellie / Les / Callan)
It was less than a pleasant day in the town of Kalmari. A particularly odd couple, the only one in town with such an usual relationship were now going through a hectic time in their life. No, it wasn’t that they were fighting- it was more of a….fixing a minor meltdown, one could say. As the day progressed on, the couples' stress nearly doubled from what it was a few hours back….well, for one of the two, at least.
"Bate, you need to relax” Ellie put a supportive arm on his shoulder to calm him. Of course, that had little to no effect. She could still feel him fidgeting and slightly shaking with absolute fear under his layers of armor. This time she walked in front of the troubled warrior and looked him straight in the eyes.
“Everything’s going to work out fine, don’t worry."
“Fine? FINE!?” He and threw his arms up in the air, completely disregarding her supportive words. “They’re going to hate me, Ellie! Why in sweet Nova did you invite them over for dinner tomorrow?!”
“They were going to find out sooner or later,” She pointed out the obvious and slightly gazed at the golden engagement bracelet Bate presented her not too long ago. She mused at the memories but quickly focused back on Bate as the situation was still on the rocks. “And what, was I not supposed to tell them and keep our relationship a secret or something?”
He gave a meager shrug, “Well, I was hoping that was the plan.”
“Bate…”
He let out a small yelp, from her light scolding. “B-but…” He stood up and nervously started to pace the room, “What are they going to do when they see they’re precious daughter is holding hands with someone like me?”
“Someone like you? You’re my fiancé, dear,” She lightly laughed, “Not a demon spawn or some dastardly villain."
“You say that, but all they’ll see is a freak. That’s how everyone in this town sees it…..” He mumbled and covered his face to hide his shame. “And you know it too, Ellie…"
Ellie frowned and stood up to hug the distraught warrior, “Bate, you need to stop thinking so poorly of yourself. It doesn’t matter what they think, you’re the one I choose, remember? Nothing’s ever going to change that, I promise.” She bend over to give him a small peck on the forehead.
It was inevitable, that’s for sure. Bate knew he’d have to see Ellie’s parents to gain her father’s blessing before going though with it. He pushed back the thought of it for so long that he didn’t think the day would finally come. Yes, he was nervous, but…
Bate slightly looked up and saw Ellie’s reassuring smile.
He loved her, plain and simple as that. If that means he has to go through with meeting her parents to have the love of his life stay by his side, then he’ll do it.
“T-thanks, Ellie…” He returned the kiss, finally speaking up after his conflicting conversation with himself, “I d-do feel a bit better, I suppose.” He quietly admitted, though lacking confidence.
