Gordon struggles to get up, but refuses to back down once he realizes his son's in danger. Unfortunately Jr was struck by Shieff, so he has some pretty gnarly scars on his face and spike. You can get a better look at them from this illustration.
Alba doesn't want Gordon to confront Shieff and instead tells him to grab Jr so they can escape. Gordon refuses to leave and tells Alba he won't if it means abandoning Bate and the others.
More importantly, it's shown that Gordon is still able to use his hands at the end of the page. If you're a long time reader of my series, there was an old description stating that Gordon loses his ability to summon his hands when his spikes break. That's not entirely true, but you'll find out in the later pages. >v<;;
