Personal Sacrifice
Chapter. 1 (Gooey's POV)
Gooey loves his other half, well and truly.
As Guardian, he is meant to be many things. Sworn protector, friend, a balance to Kirby's antics. Even if he's a Dark Matter, none of that has changed. Gooey, for all that Kirby can frustrate him to no end with his childishness, cherishes the warrior with his life.
But lately, things have been...off. He gets annoyed with Kirby sometimes, yes, but never angry. But these days, the fact is becoming less and less true. Kirby, with his bright smile, boisterous laugh, it never bothered Gooey, but now it makes his proverbial hair stand on end. Makes him irritated. Angry. More and more.
Gooey feels fear in tandem with rage when a poorly worded joke from Kirby makes him swallow back the sudden urge to do he would regret. Only then does he know it to be something not of his own making.
He thinks it to be the Dark Matter Swordsman, of course, held deep within and suppressed in Gooey's form. He's not familiar on the particulars of Dark Matter, but he had a way of influencing things he's sure, and the Swordsman could easily be influencing his mind. But even so, a part of him hesitates. For what reason, he is uncertain.
But regardless of reason or cause, whatever is happening, Gooey cannot just idle and /let/ it happen. Things will happen if he lingers, things that have already come too close to fruition for comfort. It's too much, and he isn't willing to risk anyone's safety.
So the game starts. Avoiding Kirby as if his life depends on it - a sentence far more true than Gooey cares to admit.
Wake up before him and leave. Come back either early or late, quick enough to avoid him. Stop having lunch together. Stop seeing him at /all/. As if Kirby doesn't exist, blot him from his life, avoid those smiles and giggles, the warmth of a hand on his shoulder and a hug around the back. Pretend.
It hurts. Even after only a handful of short days, it /hurts/. It isn't natural. But it's for the best. For his own good. As his Guardian, this is Gooey's duty. Even if it tears him up inside.
Some part of him does hope that Kirby will take it in stride, despite that the Warrior had never been known for such things. Long enough for Gooey to figure himself out at least.
He hopes.
And yet, there Kirby stands, wings flared, stance wide as if prepared for battle, yelling at him to talk and answer for his actions. He looks so upset and he feels as terrible as he seems, and Gooey so badly wants to comfort him, tell him it's okay, except that it's not because--
--A rage, bubbling up inside him before he's even aware of it, a shudder wracking through his body at the mere sight of the warrior, and this is not /him/--
Attack. Now, while he is defenseless.
No.
Kill him.
No.
Kill him!
No!
"Listen to me when I'm /talking/ to you, Gooey!"
Gooey moves before he's realized, and some panicked part of him thinks he's actually striking, body out of his control. He ducks underneath familiar white wings, pushing his thoughts frantically in the other's direction, a pitiful attempt at apology, a goodbye, and before he has a chance to look back, to give himself the temptation to, he's gone, slamming the door behind him.
The cool night air is a kiss to his form, and if he didn't have his mask on he would have basked in the sensation. Instead he sags against the wood of the door, panting, struggling for air and trembling. Because that had never happened before. He had never heard a voice. He was never supposed to hear one. And the emotions, the rage, the /hate/--
He... He had wanted to kill Kirby. Right then, he had been so close to just-

...He needs to leave. Until... Until he knows what's going on. Because if he doesn't figure it out...
Kirby flashes in his mind.
And, Gooey takes off. Towards Green Greens, towards isolation, safety. The only place that might actually be habitable for him, far enough away that Kirby couldn't find him no matter how well he tried.

Something...or someone wants to hurt Kirby. As much as it pains Gooey, he'll have to distance himself until he's able to figure out who's causing it. Kirby and Gooey stick together like glue, and having to be apart is really effecting both of them. D;
