-One Lonely Star-
(Sir Bate / Sir Bate)
"Oh, there you are!"
Bate already knew who that voice belonged to. He didn't bother turning around and just spoke to the figure behind him.
"Yeah, Gordon, what is it?"
"What, do I need a reason to see my best buddy?" He smiled at the Puffball.
Bate didn't speak and continued to watch the stars. Gordon looked at the sky and pointed to one of the stars. This particular star was the brightest star in the sky. Compared to the other specks in space, it made this certain star seem like it's the only one in the sky.
"Hey, can you tell me what that star's called?"
Bate sighed and turned the other way. "Figure it out yourself. I've told you too many times as it is."
"My mind slipped..." He nudged him. "Care to refresh my memory?"
"Fine," He mumbled. "It's called the Lonely Star."
"Oh, yeah!" Gordon nodded. "Now I remember. Ummm...but now I forgot why it was given such a name." He glanced at the elder.
"Bate?"
Bate rolled his eyes. "I'm not here to give a lecture, now leave me alone!"
"Aw, Bate...I'm just trying to make you smile." He poked him. "I hate seeing you sad."
"And you try to cheer me up by making me give you a lecture about the Lonely Star?" He huffed. "Yeah, nice plan, Gordon."
"Bate...."
"Gordon, I appreciate the effort, but it's not working." He pointed to the opposite direction of him. "Just go."
"....Alright." He whispered. "But....can I tell you one last thing?"
Bate shrugged. Gordon took it as a yes and pointed to the star again.
"You know....I could never understand why that star was given the name 'Lonely.' I mean, sure, it stands out from the rest, but that doesn't mean it's the only one in the sky."
He looked at Bate. "You wanna know what I think?"
Bate glanced at his friend.
"I think all the other stars are there for support."
"Support?"
Gordon nodded. "Those million of stars are there to make that particular star stand out. If it weren't for those slightly, dimmer stars filling the sky, that star would just be another blank speck in space. For me, I think that star isn't lonely. As a matter of fact, I think every single star in the sky is its friend."
The Gordo patted the Puffballs head and faced him. "You know...you remind me of the Lonely Star." He lightly laughed. "Even if you want to be by yourself, there's always going to be someone there to help you."
Bate didn't respond.
Gordon turned around and started to head back home. "Ah, well...that's what I wanted to say. See you later, Bat-"
"WAIT!!" Bate stood up and ran to Gordon.
"Hm? Yeah?"
The Puffball crossed his arms and stubbornly looked the other way. "Well, ummmm...." He softly spoke. "Do you wanna know what I think?"
"Really, now....?" Gordon smiled. "Okay, shoot."
"I think the Lonely Star does have friends...but none of them shine bright enough because of his stubborn attitude."
"What? Now we're giving it a personality?" Gordon laughed.
"We are, in fact." Bate smirked. "If he stopped being so stubborn and accepted them into his space, then maybe he wouldn't look like it's all by itself."
"Oh, really?"
"Really."
"So...." Gordon summoned one of his hands and held it out. "Do you wanna be stubborn like that star?"
"Of course not." He took his hand. "How can I when I have you constantly bugging me."
Gordon mused at his friends snappy reply.
"I'll take that as a compliment."
