Just a lil’ doodle of Wulfric as a kiddo. C=
So some small info about Wulfric's younger days:
I mentioned before Wulfric was orphaned at a young age. Both parents died while out on a hunt. Most of the deaths that occur in the village are usually from outside their walls- Demon Beasts, avalanches, outsiders (Merchants they trade with) , thin ice. Rupion’s Dad actually drowned while trying to save his comrades. So this sort of thing is not uncommon. Usually one parent will stay behind, so IF something happens, their offspring will have at least one parent. Sadly, this isn’t the case for Wulfric.
He lost his parents at the age of 11. Without a mother or father, Wulfric took it upon himself to continue where his parents left off. He learned to carve his own weapons, he learned to hunt…well....only fish. (The easiest thing to do as a hunter) and he tried to cook. Only hunters are allowed to leave the walls of the village, but Wulfric made a hidden passage so he can go ice fishing by himself. Found a small cave not too far away where he would hang out until the aurora would come out. He loved his freedom- no rules, no villagers, just himself and his fishing rod.
Glaciene, the future Chief in training, (Around the same age as Wulfric- 12ish) was out patrolling to help spot any Demon beasts or intruders. The top of each wall has small posts on each side, so it’s a relatively safe, but SUPER boring job. She ended up spotting Wulfric sneak off, and decided to follow him. Wulfric has a pretty uncaring nature towards others, it’s actually quite rare he speaks to anyone in the village. So when Glaciene tells him to stop…he doesn’t. Doesn’t even look back, just shrugs his shoulders and says why should he. She tells him he’s not supposed to be out, to which Wulfric says quite sarcastically he’s done it plenty of times and he’s not going to stop anytime soon.
Glaciene is a bit of a hot head, so she doesn’t back down and continues to threaten him unless he goes back with her, which doesn’t affect Wulfric in the slightest as he’s currently setting up his little chair and picnic basket to spend the day fishing. She scoffs, saying what a terrible job his parents did in raising him, and how they should be embarrassed for his behavior.
This strikes a nerve with Wulfric, and he finally faces her to tell her off. He knows who she is- the daughter of the Chief. And he hates the Chief because if it weren’t for HIM, his parents would still be alive. He’s the reason he sent both his parents away, he’s the reason why they died, and he’s the reason why he’s all alone now! Wulfric tells her the least she could do is leave him alone to hunt in peace- he has no one but himself to look after. He doesn’t have a large home stocked with food that he could eat whenever he pleases, or parents to help him. He’s alone, and it’s all because of her father!
Glaciene is taken aback for a moment, but being raised by Frost, she does her best to compose herself and apologizes for her rude statement. She realizes who he is now- the son of two powerful hunters who tragically died from their injuries from a massive Ice dragon. Her father told her they lost the best hunters in the village that day. She figured Wulfric had other relatives to take him in, but apparently not. She then takes a good look at Wulfric. All of his belongings are very worn, and starting to fall apart. Most of the pelt he carries has lost all of its fur. He looks unkempt, dirty, and a bit skinny. She was so focused on him breaking the rules, she didn’t even think about why he was doing it in the first place.
She takes a seat next to him much to his displeasure, and says she has a much stronger rod back at home. If he wants, he could have it next time they meet tomorrow. Wulfric raises a brow when she mentions meeting up with him tomorrow. She says if he continues going out, she’ll have to supervise him. After all, it's the duty of the future Chief to make sure everyone is safe. He just rolls his eyes and tells her whatever floats her boat, before focusing back on his fishing.
Glaciene meets up with him the next day and gives him a few items- a new fishing rod, some old pelt she doesn’t use anymore, and a small pack filled with dried fruits and nuts. It’s not much, she says, but Wulfric gratefully accepts it after thanking her. While watching him fish, she asks if he ever practiced hunting before. He says he has, but stopped once his parents died. He relies on his fishing skills now, and while he doesn’t mind eating fish, he admits that he misses a lot of his mother’s cooking- which includes roasted hare, Nruff, and Demon Beasts. Glaciene says she can teach him how to hunt and cook if he’d like, enough for him to at least catch smaller animals and make it into stew. Wulfric accepts since he terribly misses the taste of stew.
These secret meetings went on for several weeks, then months, and eventually years. Wulfic and Glaciene became close friends, and hunting partners. When the yearly obstacle course for Ice Leos approached, Wulfric and Glaciene entered, and both easily passed- impressing many of their elders, and the Chief as well. They allowed Wulfric to be a hunter after several more months of training. (Giving him access to a good portion of the Pelt, bones and meat from each successful hunt) Glaciene continued her duties of becoming future Chief, but she would sometimes tag along during hunts to monitor them….but mostly just to be with Wulfric.
As they grew older (mid-20’s) Wulfric confessed his love for her. Leaders normally have their marriages arranged, but Glaciene defied her father and said she loved Wulfric, and wanted to start a family with him. Frost was not accepting of her mate, and would only accept her decision is she beat him in battle. Once she did, she will not only marry Wulfric, but become the new leader as well.
Glaciene received several large scars across her face from the battle, but she best Frost and will soon become the new Chief of their village, AND wife of Wulfric. They ended up having one child- Kesuk. Wulfric continued his duties as a hunter and provider for their family while Glaciene ran and oversaw the village.
Wulfric still thinks about the day they first met. He’s grateful to her everyday because if it wasn’t for her generosity, he wouldn’t be where he is today.
