After the death of Brandy (Which will have a one-shot, eventually!) Kana (Grandy's mother) had to take over the throne for awhile since her son was deeply affected by the loss. Like Bate, they're a species who mate for life, so he's been severely traumatized, and mentally scarred since the incident. It takes Kana to present him with Dedede's egg for him to slowllllly 'snap' out of his depressive state. He realizes he needs to fill the role of Brandy, and protect and care for their egg- the final legacy of his wife.
It's not uncommon to spot the recovering King with a sling around him cradling his egg. He will spend all of his time carrying it- never letting it out of his sight. He promises to always be there to protect them as he still feels tremendous sorrow for not being able to protect Brandy.
I'll be sketching a few more ideas, since I love Grandy so much!! I may also sliiiightly change Dedede's style...just a bit!! I've been looking over lots of sketches of Emperor penguins, and wanna try to give it a realistic approach- it's mostly just the feet and waist/knee area Sorta like what I was doing for Kana, and Brandy. And if it doesn't look right, I'll just stick to the simple little flippers. >v<
