-Get Up!!
(Bate / Kade)
His persistent nature was enough to rival even his father's stubbornness. Even as an infant, he was able to wake Bate from the deepest of slumbers; and tonight was no exception. Kade continued to nudge both his parents in hopes to get at least one of them up. When no one seemed to wake, Kade focused all of his energy on just one of the two.
Eventually, after almost five minutes of continuous shakes and whines, he finally got what he wanted.
Ellie, the mother of Kade and proud wife of Bate, let out a soft yawn and saw the timid Puff in their bed. "Kade," She rubbed her tired eyes and grabbed the clock on her table to read
it, "It's 2 in the morning, what's wrong?"
The little Puffball pointed at the sleeping figure next to the pair. "D-daddy promised, umm...sleep in room!" He gave a frown and wiped the tears forming in his eyes. "I woke, and..and....not there!!"
The little Puff started to cry from the broken promise and hugged his mother. Ellie cradled the tiny puff to calm him. Kade always had a habit, unlike his sister, of getting up at random hours during the night. Bate, for the sake of not having Emma wake from his crying, decided to stay with Kade until he was able to finally sleep on his own. Unfortunately the small bed couldn't accommodate both Puffs, so Bate usually had to hang half of his body off of the bed. This started to cause his back to ache, and tonight no different. Bate finally had enough and decided to leave once the little Puff fell asleep to get some well-deserved rest on a bed that better suited him.
Ellie looked over at her husband and let out a sigh. She knew Kade wouldn’t go to sleep until Bate was up to explain himself, so she reached over and shook him.
“Bate,” She called, “Dear, could you wake up?”
When he didn’t respond, Kade wiggled out of her arms and started jumping on Bate’s back. “Daaaaaddy!!! Get up!” He chirped.
“K-Kade, no!”
Ellie tried to stop him, but it was too late. The sudden force on his back cause the sleeping Puff to wake. He let out a gasp of pain and quickly grabbed the Puffball with his wings. Bate placed him in Ellie’s arms, and rubbed his back where Kade was jumping.
“Kade,” He looked at the little Puff, quite agitated. “What did I say about waking daddy like that?”
Kade looked down and softly mumbled into his mother’s arms. “To never ever do that, and….ummm, I’d get in a lot of trouble if I ever do…”
“That’s right,” He scolded, “What in Nova are you doing up at two in the morning?”
Ellie placed an arm on his husband’s shoulder. “He was just wondering where you went, dear.”
“Yeah!” Kade interfered, “I…I woke up and you weren’t there anymore! Y-you promised you’d stay with me!”
