Just what in the world is Shieff talking about?!
I suppose it makes sense. Shieff could've easily killed Bate off when he was a kid. So what's he planning? It's been heavily hinted in MANY chapters, but if you can't find them, don't worry! EVERYTHING is going to be revealed in 3 pages!!! I've been waiting over a decade to finally reveal it. And once I do, I feel like everything will start making sense.
