I was debating on whether I should post this, but I figured why not! 8D TO make a long story short, I lore dumped a lot of information about West Nova to a friend of mine, and an important section of it had to do with this Squid above.
Kalmari Town is just a verrrry small part of West Nova! There's lots of towns/villages/islands that I haven't talked about~! Fun fact!! Below Kalmari Town homes several islands: The Equinox islands- The Lunar islands, and Sole Isle. Both have tribes of squids. (The Sol Isle worshiping Paverok, and the Lunar Islands worshiping Kelderon.) But the one we're focusing on today is Deep Sea! Deep Sea is incredibly dangerous, and houses some of the most cutthroat Squids known on said planet. Just like the Zoos and Landia, the Deep Sea Squid forms a bond with a particular beast. (Which will be revealed later!) Deep Sea squids thrive in water, and are born to respect and learn the ways of mother ocean. Their economy relies on bartering, and not modern day currency. They also speak their own language, and tend to stay away from the upper parts of West Nova…or, better yet, everyone else keeps away from them since their way of life is very harsh. I do plan on talking more about West Nova, but I'm currently working on the East Novan bio atm, so West Nova will be next after I finish East~ ^o^
Anyways! The Deep Sea Squid! I'll post some information below for those who are interested! =D
The Deep Sea Squids live in a remote part of West Nova. Their home protected by powerful whirlpools where no ship or boat will be able to pass. Unlike the common Squishy, these guys are much larger and stronger. These guys are on a league of their own, and can hunt, cook , and easily thrive in the harshest of rainy conditions. Hurricanes, tsunamis- you name it!
They keep their face hidden by using petrified driftwood- It's not often they remove it, so outsiders can get a bit intimidated by their look. Their bodies are also covered in spots- usually to ward off creatures who may see them as a meal. Those spots aren't just for show- the brighter the colors, the higher their toxicity levels are. Because of it, they don't have many natural enemies- their ink alone can kill someone twice their size in less than a minute.
As mentioned above, they tend to keep away from other towns, and it's rare they get visitors due to constant whirlpools protecting their home~They're not unkind to visitors, though! Even with the language barrier, outsiders can typically grasp what they're being told. Deep Sea squids also love to house and feed anyone who comes to visit. They also teach them how to hunt, or cook certain, popular dishes.
Again, they are considered the strongest Squids in West Nova. They also have an extra pair of arms, which is a trait only Deep Sea Squids have. Another fun fact! Les' great Grandfather is a Deep Sea Squid! Les doesn't have the markings, but he does have the arms~ >v<
Since the Deep Sea squids have a close relationship with the sea, they are truly the masters of knowing just about every creature and flora there is in the ocean- as well as to properly handle and cook any specimen. Their home is also known to an incredibly rare, special type of coral. When soaked, it's makes an incredible broth!
