-Common Mistake-
(Bate / Meta)
It wasn’t common, but it was certainly not uncommon. It….was in the middle, he’d say. Meta hears it well enough when he goes out, and he’s learned to deal with the mixups and fervent apologies following soon after. Really, it wasn’t their fault, and Meta doesn’t blame them. How were they to know what they weren’t related when they practically do everything together.
"Awwwww, isn’t he adaroable!” A voice cooed and pinched young Meta’s cheek. She stood back up and focused on the elder who was with him. “Oh, he looks just like you."
Meta slightly gazed up at Bate and saw him blush in embarrassment. Even after all this time, he still has the same reaction. He watched his teacher sheepishly look away from the Squishy and softly mumble in embarrassment.
“He’s…not my son. I’m just his teacher.”
“O-oh.” She said in surprise. “I…I’m so sorry. I just assumed he was since he, well...” She slightly bowed her head. “I...I'm terribly sorry.”
“It’s….quite alright,” He replied and nudged Meta to follow him out of the market. Meta waved goodbye to the embarrassed Squid before grabbing the edge of Bate’s wing and followed him out.
While walking home, Meta noticed how quiet he’s become. He always acts a bit distant around the young Puff whenever anyone mistakes him as his father. He wasn’t sure why. He thinks it’s kinda funny….but not for Bate.
