Apart
(Tula / Rupion)
“Tula….” Rupion calls out. His voice weary and lacking the usual vigor it comes with it.
“O-oh, Rupion.” She heads over to the Leo. With a thermos in hand, she uncaps it, and offers the Leo a cup of ice water. “You’re looking worse than yesterday. Don’t worry, I’ll inform my parents once we get back home, we can head out tonight.”
The Leo shakes his head as he graciously takes the drink from her. “No. I’ll manage, promise.”
Rupion couldn’t understand how his Aunt Kesuk could bear the warmer climates of Kalmari Town. Winter nearly ended, but it already felt like a summer heatwave for an ice based Leo like Rupion. They just arrived in Kalmari Town several weeks ago, but the winter didn’t last as long as he had hoped. He knows Tula loves to spend the holiday season with her parents, though, and didn’t want to ruin it by leaving early.
The worried look on her face causes him to let out a small chuckle. “Nothing can stop the great Scorpion Prince. I’ll be fine once night falls. The temperature will be much cooler for me.” He says, and hands the empty cup back to her.
Tula watches as the Leo struggles to get up, but he eventually does, and heads back to the path of Falspar and Pyrell’s home. She couldn’t help but worry over him- he lacks his usual ice horns and large scorpion tail since it takes too much effort for him to maintain. He’s been incredibly sluggish once the ice around Kalmari Town began to melt, and prefers not to engage in anything too strenuous. She knows Leos are very sensitive to the environment- her cousin Atticus is proof enough. The last thing she ever wants is for him to fall ill because of her….
“R-Rupion, wait.” She calls out and heads to him.
“Hm?” He turns around and gives the other a small smile. “Yes, my plum queen, what is it?”
“Oh, Ru-Ru….” Tears in her eyes start to form, and she embraces the other. “This…this isn’t working out. You’ve been trying so hard to make this work, but…I…I can’t bear to see you in pain any longer. I know you want me to be happy, but I…I just can’t. Not when you’re struggling like this.”
“T-tula….” He reaches out to wipe her tears.
“We’re from two completely different worlds, Kalmari Town isn’t South Nova. It’s..just not suited for an Ice Leo like yourself…”
“B-but…” The Leo stammers. “If Lady Kesuk can do it, so can I! I..I promise I’ll adapt.” He hugs her close. “I can’t lose you, Tula. My whole world would simply crumble without you in it.”
