-A Place to Call Home
(Bate / Ellie)
"Well, Sir Bate, it seems like you're fully recovered. Your wings have healed, no broken bones, and your talons are starting to grow back."
Ellie took a step back from the examination table to let him step off. The Puff happily made his way down and stretched his wings as he was extremely eager to leave the hospital.
"You don't know how long I've been waiting to hear you say that." He grinned. Taking a look at his reflection from the mirror across from him, he gave another smile from the lack of bandages and cords attached to his body.
"You've been whining about it over the course of several months. Trust me, I know exactly how you felt." She giggled. "Of course, it wasn't all bad, I...did get to meet you." She couldn't help but blush at the last part as her feelings for him started to surface. After months of getting to know the warrior, it was hard not to. He wasn't like anyone she ever met before. The stories of his past, his plans for the future- just everything about him completely intrigued her. Bate was unique. He saw the world differently compared to the town of Kalmari.....and she wanted to be part of that world as well.
Wings perking, the Puff gave a small hum and turned around once he heard her say that. He walked towards her and graciously took her hand. "Meeting you was the only part that made this whole stay bearable. Thank you, Ellie. It's because of you I'm able to finally fly again."
Ellie was different. She wasn't like the other Squids who treated him like a virus. Even though he showed much hostility to her, she refused to be intimidated by him. He eventually lowered his guard and got to know the Squid he once resisted. Although stubborn, she somehow broke through the wall he's put up. Because of this, Bate can't help but be utterly fascinated by her. He wanted to know much about her world like she wanted to know about his. She...was special to him.
"Hope I'm not interrupting anything, am I?" A voice called out which caused the pair to jolt away from each-other.
"A-Alba! Of course not." Ellie shifted away from the Puff and tried to hide the blush with one of the clipboards. "I just finished his examination, and he's at the peak of health."
"Good! If that's the case..." She held out several forms in front of him. "Once you complete the following forms, you'll be free to grace your presence outside the hospital."
Once handed over, she then faced Ellie.
"Oh, and Ellie, may I have a word with you while Bate's doing his paper work?" She requested, heading out in the hallway.
Ellie gave a small glance at Bate and vice versa before giving a nod and following her. She stepped a few feet away from the door and patiently waited for the other to speak.
"So, about Bate. What's his plan once he's done filling those papers out?"
"I believe he said he wanted to practice his flying. I was going to take him to one of the open fields near the beach and-"
"That's not what I meant." Alba cut in and tried to re-word it. "What I mean is....where does he plan on staying? You said he was going to live in Kalmari, do you know how hard it's going to be for him to purchase a home?"
"O-oh..." Truthfully, she hadn't thought about that. She was too occupied getting to know him to even think about what would happen once he was released. Surly the thought of it crossed Bate's mind at one point....has it?
