A Frozen Leo's Return
Chapter. 6
"There we go!" Petta gently wrapped Kes' arms after removing the IV from it. She moved aside to let her get up, and Meta extended a hand for support once her feet touched the ground. Stumbling a bit, she couldn't help but give a pitiful laugh as she was unable to keep herself standing for more than a few seconds.
"I've face off against numerous opponents twice my size, and to think some little puny little porcupine took me down. How embarrassing, I can't even stand, let alone head back to South Nova...." She scoffed.
"A very poisonous one, mind you." Petta informed, kneeling down to mend her broken spirit. "Kes, you've been poisoned for several days, and that's not counting the strain you put on your body from traveling here. Don't expect to be back to normal in a few days. Take it easy and relax for now, okay?"
"But I have to head back to my village as soon as possible. That's why I traveled here in the first place, I don't have time to wait!" She stood back up, but Meta extended his wing to block her. She fell back in her chair and looked up at the masked warrior.
"Our Teachers, your comrade, and my friends already left to South Nova with the vials several hours back. They'll be able to take care and handle everything." He said, straightening his pose and looking away. "I gave my word to keep an eye over you until they return."
"Really, now?" Arthur slid the door open to intervene once he heard that. He slightly pushed Meta down when he placed his hand behind his back and used his other hand to cup his ear. "It /that/ how the story went, my mind seems to be quite fuzzy, remind me again?"
"A-Arthur..." Meta hissed between his teeth as he tried to get the weight of the Puff off of him.
"Oh, quit teasing, Arty." Petta got between the two before a heated brawl broke out. "Do we really need two more stuck in the hospital as well?"
Meta suddenly felt the weight on his back disappear, and he pushed himself up to glare at Arthur. With a smirk from embarrassing his younger sibling, the green Puff used his wings to gently wrap Petta before heading out the door. "Fine, fine, no need to such a grump about it. We'll leave and give you two some aloooone time." He teased before running off in a fit of laughter when Meta threw his mask at him.
Huffing with anger, the Puff picked it up when it fumbled back to his feet and covered his face again. He turned to Kes and noticed she was trying to get up again. Before Meta could speak, she gripped the handles of the chair and forced herself up. He watched as she tried her best to move forward; each little step resulting in a small grunt of pain. Meta was about to grab her, but he pulled back as the temperature started to fall.
"P-please, Meta, I need to do this on my own." She closed her eyes in pain as she took several more steps. "I'm not going to leave my family when they need my help. I have to get back on my feet so I can head back."
"You'll just be injuring yourself even more." He walked forward despite her protest and put her arm around his shoulder. "You can't expect to travel all the way to South Nova in this state. And...I'm sure you know that as well." He lead her back to the chair to let her rest again. He watched as he tried to push herself up again, but before he could intervene, she collapsed once more. He couldn't help but panic when he saw her starting to tense up.
"I feel so helpless...." Her voice cracked with each word as she tried not to cry. "I know you want me to rest, but if your Teacher was in trouble, surly you could understand where I'm coming from, Meta. Would you not do the same if I tried to stop you?"
"O-Of course I would...." He stumbled with his words once the well being of his teacher was brought in. "I...I would fight anyone who stood in my way to get to him. It's our nature to put aside our needs to help the ones we care about." He spoke, taking a seat next to her. "But....if my comrades tell me they'll able to handle it, I need to trust in their words and push away the thought of what I think it better. Kes, you've done so much to help them already. You were badly poisoned, you traveled all the way here to seek help, and you helped find a cure for your village. You've done more than enough, so it's time to rest and leave it to the others. Do....you think you could trust my family so they can take care of yours?"
Meta felt the cold temperature slowly die down. She gave a small sigh, and looked up with apologetic eyes. "If it's coming from you, then I know I can trust in your words. I will try my hardest to rest and wait until they return."
"We'll wait together." He nodded since he, too, wanted to see his mentor and friends again. Pushing his chair closer, Meta took a seat once more and rested with his friend until she was able to move again.
